I'll start the ball rolling...
Supertramp- Crime of the Centruy Deluxe version no date for release yet
Miles Davis
I heard an advance CD of this set last Friday Ewemon. It's absolutely stunning. Good SQ too.

Haven't heard it myself yet but thanks for the heads up.

A superb (original) recording. Plenty of potential for inevitable degradation there.
The Mo-Fi is pretty good, but my pick of the bunch is a USA manufactured A&M CD-3647 (DIDX-25).
A new version will sound inferior - unless it's a Hoffman Audio Fidelity job.

According to Ken Scott
"IMHO, if one is going for sound quality the only version is the Brit first vinyl pressing. Beautifully mastered by Ray Staff. Incredibly pressed by the CBS Classical division and the only one I was a part of.
From what I've heard since, everything has gone down hill from there."
He also meant cd versions as well.
Re how good the new one sounds I will let you know when I listen to it John. My ears do the listening as I am not a great believer in condemning something until I do.
I have the UK 1st press of COTC and it has superb SQ that I would think would be very difficult to improve on. In fact all the Supertramp originals were very well recorded and they are quite cheap to pick up in decent condition.

Forgive my cynicism ewemon. It's a very rare remaster/deluxe edition re-issue which has done anything positive for the audiophile in the last ten or fifteen years.
That sounds like fair comment above. Ken Scott should know. I have a Canadian 'Audiophile Series' LP produced by him which sounds very good, but the original vinyl press will undoubtedly be the best.
Mad; isn't it? - the reasonably priced average slab of vinyl bought at one's local record store on release turns out to be the best it's ever gonna sound.
The lunatics have taken over the (recording industry) asylum.
John.
When discussing the Drive-By Truckers' 12th album English Oceans (due March 4th), Mike Cooley, the band's co-lead singer and guitarist, is quick to draw a connection to Alabama Ass Whuppin', a raucous live record the group re-released this fall. "I had forgotten what a punk-rock outfit that shit was," Cooley tells Rolling Stone, discussing the rowdy four-piece band circa 1999. "The new record has kind of gone back to that simple sound. It sounds like a smaller band again."

Aan is a fearless experimental pop band from Portland. They are poised for a big 2014, on the heels of a 2013 that saw them garnering praise from publications like Stereogum, Noisey, IFC and Impose and touring almost constantly with the likes of The Smashing Pumpkins and Built to Spill. Partly because of this relentless schedule, their debut LP, Amor Ad Nauseum, has been almost 3 years in the making. But they've been years well-spent - each of these 9 songs wears an elegant, seemingly effortless patina that is only ever the result of the tireless perfection of craft. Meanwhile, the non-stop touring has honed their already energetic live show into an explosive frenzy, making them one of the must-see acts in the Pacific Northwest. They'll keep up the pace on the road this year; look for them. Also available on vinyl.
Listen to this on Spoty as i type. Love it thanks Voltaire
