Doug,
Which label is doing the remaster on this?
Kuma, it's Speakers Corner
Thanks.
Curious to see what they did with it. I've the 2 eye original but the piano is clangy and nasaly and very dry studio sound.
Would you let me know how it turns out? ( as Speakers Corner reissues have been such a hit and miss )
Hi Kuma,
I know what you mean here as there is a sense occasionally of a clangy / nasally sound but it seems to rear its ugly head most definitely in the higher register of the piano and when the music is louder. Tamed down otherwise and not too offensive overall though. The Clara Schumann seems to benefit the most as the Kreisleriana tends to have more wild parts. I have no reference point to know whether this is the same, better or worse than your original? For me it is a nice record overall (not the best though) with the occasional track in Kreisleriana tending more to a clangy piano in the upper registers and in loud parts mostly.
Doug,
Thank you for your reply.
Reading that you are having the same problem in upper register at high SPL as mine, it must be in the recording.
It isn't one of his best in terms of performance but I love and respect almost all things Horowitz.
Matt,
Great choice man.
Brilliant album.
Enjoy.

Stu
you mentioned this before Christmas and having bought their earlier lp, i promptly bought this one too. It has been on my turntable a lot over the break. A delightful album and hugely recommended.
Thank you.
