Doug,
Do you know if they cut lacquer from the original analogue source?
Whilst you are at it, put this one on your pre-order, too.
Looks like Warner is on the vinyl band wagon, and I am certainly curious to hear Tharaud's fist vinyl release.
Kuma,
Yes, I was surprised by the possibility of a Tharaud vinyl and so I pre-ordered this a couple of weeks ago when I first saw it !!!! It should arrive in about two weeks. I just ran out of time as I have at this moment too. So I will have to run now.
As for the others, I'm sorry I don't know the details. When these albums arrive I can see what information is given and will let you know.

Thanks Doug.
I find it very difficult to get a technical details on some reissues.
I am sure you might have this one already ordered but I am trying to find the latest tech info on Sony/Columbia's Glenn Gould '81 Goldberg Variations vinyl release.
This is said to be sourced from the original analogue tape rather than the digital tape they used for the original pressing. I found out this reissue was done by the same engineer who worked on a wonderful 2002 CD reissue 'A State of Wonder' who also used the original analogue tape.
The new reissue is pressed at MPO in France. Given my last Gould's Sony reissue experience ( Beethoven Symphony 5 ) I asked the US distributor who cut the lacquers and they told me they don't know and since they are only a US distributor they don't have and access to all the technical info.
Anyways, if you get this record, let me know how it is.
I am curious to see if it beats my 2002 CD reissue which sound far more natural than the original digital LP release.
If they did a due diligence, this newly mastered vinyl reissue *should be* the best sounding one.
Both 1955 and 1981 claim to be cut from Original Analog Master Tapes by Andreas K. Meyer at Meyer Media LLC.
Meyer has much work done for Sony Masterworks, Decca, Universal Music, Deutsche Grammophon, JVC Japan, Mosaic Records, Legacy Records, Naxos, Columbia, Impex... and many more.
The 1981 performance is mastered from the analog tape to vinyl for the very first time.
They are both wonderful reissues, not to be missed.
Big day at the shops!

VG,
Do you have the 2002 release A State of Wonder CD?
If so, how is the vinyl comparatively?
I very much enjoyed Meyer's mastering on the CD but I wasn't sure of his analogue side work of cutting lacquers. ( that's art in itself )
That said, the reissue is priced rather economically at 25 bucks so I'd reckon can't ask for the moon.
The price is extremely low for such a quality release.
Yes I have the State Of Wonder CD set and in my opinion these two LP reissues are better, buy without reserve
Thanks VG,
I think I am going to pony up for a '81 version. ( my preferred performance in spite the seminal '55 performance created a *phenomenon*. )
Do you know who cut the lacquers?

It's still puzzling to me why Sony/Columbia is doing the production out of the country when the original tape is in the US.
This may not be legible - it's a Them compilation from 1973, very much trading on Van Morrison's current prominence. Unfortunately it's electronically altered for stereo, but with the mono button on has an expansive sound. It may well be preferable to my CD compilation (a mixture of mono and proper stereo) which is more precise but rather unforgiving.

Woozy Welsh psychedelicists Islet - 12" EP "Triangulation Station" on Shape Records. Only 250 made, this is No. 220.
Two new 180gram vinyl, still new to jazz so feeling my way out.
Hey Sneaky,
Those look good. There is so much good Jazz on heavyweight vinyl of so many classic recordings. The next time we have a local meet up I can bring a bunch along.

Sneaky, two nice albums. If you are dipping your toe into the wonderful world of jazz may I be so bold as to suggest you have a look at the Music Matters 33rpm Blue Note reissues series. It's a fantastic introduction to the golden age Blue Note Jazz at prices that are aforabable particularly as you are in the USA.
Regards Graham.
