What was the last vinyl you bought?

Arrived today in the post:
As for Blue Note 75th Series (Don Was), it seems like there are three different possible sources for the mastering:
Bernie Grundman
Alan Yoshida
And... a third source that remains unknown.
VG,
Oh I suppose Yoshida makes sense.
Possibly they used his XRCD Blue Note release 24/96 file to cut lacquers.
I vaguely recall there was either an EMI or Toshiba remaster which flagged 'from the original master tape' but later the engineer admitted that it was sourced form a digital file in one of the interview.

If you like the Beatle's music go crazy. If you want the definitive set, mono box set is probably the way to go than buying awful digital reissues by UK Parlophone. ( they are cheap but the sound is garbage )
I've individual releases that I like out of their catalogue. Personally I think that their music gets more interesting post 'Yesterday'.
Ok I'm running on coupons all week, culminating in a 50% off on Sunday.
So far all my new Jazz is Waxtime 180 gram. Just familiarizing myself with the names, their instrument and their style to see who I like. So far Ellington, Mingus are my favorites.
My taste so far? The slower the better, ballroom dance like Ellington Indigos...I like the piano a lot in Jazz. Also I haven't found any good trombone players yet if you guys can recommend.
Actually played the trumpet as a yoot, and my father played trombone; he actually cut a jazz album in high school! Had a full ride offered to Rice University playing trombone; he chose instead to go to Air Conditioning school--back then A/C was a new and wonderful thing.
Today's coupon snagged me:
This one has a subtle *hiss* of background noise compared to other records, is it just the recording or how many years ago it was recorded?
SS,
What do you think of The Jazz Messengers?
Look at that cute *senstive* face of Horace on the album cover!
He had the same kind of intensity and seriousness as Glenn Gould.
Wes Montgomery had some good songs, a few of them too fast for me.
The Jazz Messengers was way too fast, I'm feeling that Jazz feeling I get when I've over-listened...especially when I've listened to a lot of faster Jazz.
Only way I can describe it is going to an Indian food buffet for the first time, and eating a handful of all 65 different items.
Little bit of a headache...most of the Jazz I listen to and enjoy is very slow and mellow. So at least I didn't blow $40 learning, but about $27 for these two. I'll probably come to enjoy the Wes Montgomery, but this Jazz Messengers is too much for me.
Like latin stuff, Cal Tjader as well. Chet Baker Sings is one of my favorites, Blue in Orbit, Piano in the Foreground, Piano in the Background, Kind of Blue
Some that I am considering:
Bill Evans Trio - Sunday at the Village Vanguard
Gerry Mulligan - Relax
Art Blakey - Soul
Quincy Jones - Around the World
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
If any of these are full of hyper-fast music please advice.
I also realized I like slow jazz where each instrument plays for a while and they rotate through them, rather than a big band hammering away as fast as they can all together.
Well, then you'd love Kenny Burrell, Grant Green and big breathy sound of Gene Ammons, Ben Webster etc...
Me, I much prefer high energy hard bop or funky striding groovy tunes most of the time. I love slow numbers too but I like them in darker shades.
Is this too fast for you?
My current favourite slow tune:
Art Blakey one isn't too fast per se, but right there on the edge. However it is LOUD and lots of crashing. It's almost like I have PTSD or something and the super slow stuff really helps me.
Slow one is great!
This is one of my favorites:
Another of my absolute favorites:
One more on my golden list:
Coltrane: Ballads
Grant Green Idle Moments:
Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio: Midnight Sugar
Bill Evans: Conversation with Myself
My favourite Quincy Jones record. ( bet you'd hate it )
I've heard the midnight sugar, but I can't make myself buy it yet...very expensive and CharlieP won't give me his copy so...
Sneaky, you just have to stop by some day. I will be pleased to Play it for you.
Midnight Sugar:
I don't think much of it but it's an audiophile fave like Jazz at Pawn Shop. A friend brought his copy once here to test bunch of headphones. Nice sounding but content wise, I don't think they can compete with the best of the best from the mid century US artists.
How about some nice Getz & Gilberto?
Stanley Turrentine with the Three Sounds: Blue Hour Bluesy slow number.
Yep, I have that Getz on CD, and have a different one on vinyl. Problem: Girl from Ipanema gets old too fast...already had heard it 1,000 times before I had the album. I hate that because its such a great song.
Some songs are just like drinking a mug of sugar water, real good for the first couple of gulps, but cloying afterwards. Also the hit you with it twice (on digital).
This is great though I have a lot of new names.
I'm just back from Madison, Wisconsin where my daughter has moved to start her career. Excellent record shops there and I had limited time to harvest some vinyl. These from the "Strictly Discs" shop ....
Love a song by Joe Jackson back in the early MTV days (when they played music videos)...Stepping Out.
Want to fall in love forever? Gerry Mulligan Night Lights

Yeah. But it's better than Chet Baker singing. :/

If I was forced to make a choice, that would be my favourite track, ever.
Jon Hopkins - Immunity.
I don't think I've ever heard a better pressing in my life. I mean whisper quiet throughout, not a blemish anywhere. Awesome vinyl.....
Received an email saying this is on it's way!

Cool!... just checked my inbox and no email about my order yet although arrival date is shown as this Friday 6th Nov which will be a real treat for the weekend after cooking burgers at the village bonfire!
Did you go for vinyl or digital?
Richard
Vinyl. £52 from base.com.
Yikes! The CD is costing me £14. The vinyl is a much nicer 'thing' though - better than a CD to rip and sling in the loft.

Yes I had an email from them this morning too - wondering if it might arrive tomorrow!

For £50 you get the CDs as well - a bargain!
Just arrived today from Discogs - Mike Gibbs - British jazz from 1975. Sounds great.
