Hi Kevin. How does this re issue sound? I have an original in mono but would love a stereo version but an original is very expensive.
Thanks Prem.
I have all four recent 2016 reissues, Piper, More, SOS, and Ummagumma.
Have also listened to them a few times each, my only comparative 'reference' is an original [or early 70s reissue] copy of Ummagumma, so it was that album i played first.
All the new vinyl i have is EU made, dead flat - no warping, nice looking pressings, nice black poly-paper inner sleeves too.
On playback the new vinyl versions sound very easy on the ear, fairly quiet vinyl bar a few clicks and pops here and some 'wow' sound on quite passages but which fortunately don't intrude on the performance. Musically there is an obvious lack of timbre from drums, percussion, and forever distant and merged bass guitar. Some compression at play too but the biggest mischief is the absence of life and soul from the music. Although the new vinyl is clean sounding and warm it lacks a true sense of organic feel that exists on the original versions. My original version of Ummagumma sours high above in terms of realism and sense of emotional engagement. I have to say i find it difficult to actually enjoy what i hear from these new reissues due to the sterility.
To make matters worse, after listening to new vinyl version of Piper, i listened to the 2011 reissue CD [from the Discover box set] and which is found to be musically engaging and enjoyable, the foot tapping sensation doth return. i have to add here that my LP12 really is a more capable player than my CDS3, but in this comparison the 2011 CD remasterings do win over.
Thinking of sending my new vinyl copies back and cancelling the pre-order for the next batch, shame these vinyl reissues are just another lost opportunity : (

Thanks Debs & Kevin. I will probably take a punt on Pipers as an original stereo copy is expensive. I have 70's pressing Ummagumma, More & original mono and stereo copies of Saucerful so don't need those. It's a shame they didn't do these properly all analog.

*wrings hands*
It's a job for the Sweet and Tender Holligan to sort out. Send the three bar fire to Amazon's office.
The first 4 solo-albums from Peter Gabriel in half-speed-masterd 45rpm numbert edition:
The best SQ in my vinyl-libary - and each comes along with an 96/24-download.
Cornelius: Fantasma
Now I wish someone would reissue *Point* which the original release is going for a silly money.
Really enjoying these : )
Most of these albums i have on CD [Stereo Remasters] but fortunately my purchase of this set caused no vinyl duplicates - which made the decision to buy easy.
The Covers are a fit tight on the LPs, and the LPs needed some proper poly-paper sleeves [after cleaning].
The pressings look nigh on faultless, all perfectly flat - no warps at all.
The only neg to mention is the curious distant and fuzzy sound of Paul Chamber's bass on Giant Steps, i'm not familiar with this album but it sounds like studio recording issues to me...? however, all the other albums have the top drawer SQ, and fabulous music too.
Very happy with the purchase : )

Just received it...2LP, extended version. Heavyweight vinyl, nice inner sleeves with the thin plastic window. Sounds good so far!
Not bad for $19.99 and 2 day shipping.
The latest remastering by Kevin Gray. All done up from the original master tape.
Kuma,
I was thinking about picking up a couple of the Joe Jackson titles. What are your impressions of Night and Day?
Thanks,
Matt
Matt,
I have all of the Joe Jackson titles from Intervention Records- they are all very good and better my first pressings by some margin. The Everclear reissues are outstanding as well. Have no fear- these are really nice remasters..
ATB,
Mark
Thanks Mark. The order has been placed.

Matt,
It's not here yet! I am definitely curious to find out. I've a couple of originals but they can be bettered.
Joan Armatrading - Joan Armatrading, Speakers Corner pressing. Sounds great.

I guess we can all compare notes when the records actually arrive. It sounds promising.
As above,
Grabbed yesterday at Ricordi music store in Milan, it's photobook not a record but really worth btw

Wife grabbed a stack of 15 lps for $10 at an estate sale, starting to go through it:
She's getting trained well, they are clean with no scratches.

I was hoping there'd be a mono remasterng of these two LPs. I've got the 40th Anniversary 2CD set of Piper - one stereo and one mono disc. The mono is excellent.

My records arrived yesterday. I'm The Man and Night and Day. I'm the Man was very good. Superior to my ancient copy. If Night and Day is also this god I will probably order Look Sharp! as well. Looking forward to your impressions.
Record Label: Concord Records
Just arrived from Juno - excellent modern jazz fusion...

I' m a bit disappointed too, albeit the vinyl seems pretty fine, the cover is very thin and contrary to a cheap cd edition, no insert with pics and lyrics.
