What was the last vinyl you bought?

As the original post is no more I thought I would start a new one.

Arrived today in the post:

Emitt Rhodes - Mirror.

I actually went for the self-titled debut album, released in 1970 but unfortunately that was not available so I got this instead. I still hope that I can track the first solo album at some point though.

There are a few on amazon not cheap though.

I picked up a mint copy on a two for £1 deal at a local charity shop a few years ago.

I had never heard of him until that.

Its a very good album.

Will get it out the rack for a play later.

The Doors - The Doors - 45rpm 2lp

The Doors - Strange Days - 45rpm 2lp

The Doors - LA Woman - 45rpm 2lp

Bob Dylan - Freewheelin - 45rpm 2lp

Bob Dylan - Another Side.. - 45rpm 2lp

Antony & Johnsons - Cut The World

Dave Brubeck - Time Out - 45rpm 2lp

All excellent.

The Dave Brubeck 45rpm took me by surprise. I would say it's possibly the finest sounding lp I've ever heard. It's unbelievably good.

Hi count,

I have The Doors and Strange Days on 45rpm and I agree they are excellent. I also have LA Woman and the other Doors 45rpm on order and they have been delayed. When did you receive LA Woman and from where?

Hi Steve,

I bought this whole batch from Acoustic Sounds. Even with the postage and customs, it worked out cheaper than buying from the UK (plus Acoustic Sounds are nice to deal with).

Thanks Count,

I've bought many albums from Acoustic Sounds and agree they are very helpful. I buy from them when my kids go to the US to see their mother and then they bring them back. I've never had them sent to the UK. How much did you get stung for vat and import duties with those 7 albums? I have mine ordered from Vinyl Goldmine in Poland who are a bit cheaper than the UK and postage is free when you order 5 LPs. I should receive mine soon.

I was thinking of posting a thread on 45rpm LP's. I have 20 of them and the SQ is for the most part superb. I don't mind getting up to change sides every 10 minutes, I see it as a small price to pay for the improved SQ. I know quite a few people don't like them for this reason. I wonder how many people on the forum listen to singles?

Some of the standout 45's I have are Fleetwood Mac Rumours, Muddy Waters Folk Singer, John McLaughlin et al Friday Night in San Francisco plus a number of Blue Note Jazz albums from Music Matters and Analogue Productions.

As with any new record I find they also benefit from a clean on my KM RCM. Sometimes the results can be quite dramatic after removing the pressing agent residue etc.

The customs & vat duty was £39.46, shipping was £35.19.

Yes I've never been disappointed with a 45rpm lp yet.

The recent Bob Dylan ones sound great and give me an alternative presentation to the Dylan mono boxset.

I've just done the maths and it works out just under £42 per album compared to an average of £50 per album if bought in the UK. Surprisingly Vinyl Goldmine are comparable in cost if you buy 5 or more. The Doors albums are £42.77 with free P&P. They don't have the selection that Acoustic Sounds have though.

My daughter is going to the US in about 6 weeks so I'll order another half a dozen albums. Perhaps I'll try the Bob Dylan 45's. I've never ever had a good MoFi album but I've heard these 45's are different.

David Crosby "If I Could Only Remember My Name" on 45rpm is just......how shall I put it...........Far out!

And Dylan's Frewheelin'' on 45 is also excellent.

Hi Richard,

I had the Classic Records Crosby album but had to return it as it was a warped pressing. It was the last they had. I have the original 1st press in good nick so I'm not too disappointed.

As both you and the count both recommend the Bob Dylan 45's I'll give them a go.

Richard/count,

Just added Freewheeling to my order from Poland.

Thebig..,

Great album if you can ignore Phil Spector's overproduction.
