Kuma,

Thanks for the past pressing background. I trust there is nothing seriously wrong with your big system.

I put it on my small office rig but this music needs to be heard in a big system. If you know the film well, this album is so visual it's a electronica tone poem.

Huge dynamics and the notes appear from black background. The music is mixed with a few dialogue and sound effects  from the film sets the smoky and rainy surrealistic mood. I'd imagine in a big room one can totally immerse in a giant soundstage. ( who needs pictures! )

This is a very different take from the copy I have which is more upbeat and *Hollywood*-ized. But I do miss Tom Scott's sax on the Love Theme as well as Richard Tee's wonderful linear melody lines in Memories of Green.

I love the music and that production is good enough in that I am going to get a second copy.

Give it up for Kevin Gray!

Hi Denis,

I discovered Emily Barker's music via 'Nostalgia' which is used to great effect as the theme music to the Kenneth Brannagh 'Wallander' dramas. I shall investigate the new album.

Hi John,

I think it will be very good. Graham (Quad33) and I heard some of the songs at a recent gig and they were less 'folk', a bit more 'electric'. Playing and harmonies still in tact though. Emily's current album 'Almanac' is excellent and a no brainer purchase (CD & Vinyl).

JBL Sessions 1973

Just got this fascinating double LP, basically an advert for JBL monitors back in the day. Sides 3 and 4 take you through recording in a studio. A slightly naff voice over but really interesting. Stuff like separate instruments, miked and patched straight in, different mikes on a drum kit etc and then adding various effects and finally mixing (based on 16 track tape). It's presumably all analogue too. Seems widely available second hand from the US of A, try Discogs.

Cheers John

Congrats Blueknowz!  I'd love to have such a dear friend. As Ben once said to Brian in the dungeon "You lucky, lucky bastard" .  Keep us updated on any gems you find.
