What was the last vinyl you bought?
Posted by: apye! on 18 January 2011
Arrived today in the post:
The Jam - The Studio Recordings
I have an original copy of that sampler.
Arrived today from Amazon:
Don't have any Dire Straits vinyl in my collection so suppose it makes some sense to buy the 6 x LP box set. Used to have the first two album in my original LP collection - that i wish i hadn't sold [20 years ago].
Also have a feeling this new box set may not sell well, and the price may drop further...
Debs
Debs,
I'm interested to hear what you think. I have all their original vinyl and considered this set, but the ones I have sound so good, I wonder why bother. Bob Ludwig did the mastering on the box set so SQ should be top-notch. Hope you enjoy it. Let us know.
Mine arrived yesterday. Hope you like it.
Regards,
Roger
P.S. Hope you are also enjoying your new 552.
This has just arrived, .................when is the weekend?
I have an original copy of that sampler.
Blueknowz: This is an original copy, just not my original copy

17 LPs. Crikey! That's a scatload of vinyl from a band I've never ever even heard of! Am I missing out on anything? Maybe I've just been sheltered in my corner of the universe?

Never heard Can ? Don´t try it! Dangerous ;-)
here's a quote from a journalist:
The band’s powerful influence has never diminished, and their indelible mark is apparent in the bands who freely acknowledge their importance – from Portishead, James Murphy, New Order, Factory Floor, Public Image Ltd, Mogwai, Kanye West (who sampled ‘Sing Swan Song&rsquo and Radiohead – as well as across other disciplines such as visual art and literature.

You are missing out on one of the greatest, and certainly most influential, bands of all time Randy. Check out the awe-inspiring 1971 LP "Tago Mago" for starters.

I don't think I've ever seen it. I'm intrigued. I got the search image now and if I run across this digging through s/h vinyl I'm definitely going to bring it home and spin it. Thanks for the recommendation teww and Kevin-W .
How much did you pay? Last time looked it was over £400 - way too much for me...
I paid 319€

Thanks for this - listening now online, very cool. Glad we have online streaming as a way to shop for vinyl ;-)
Believe it or not : We in Europe have also online streaming ;-)
.... but if you see this amazing 17 Pieces of Vinyl, you´ll forget to stream !
My point exactly. If I bought all the vinyl I wanted I would be both bankrupt and out of space. Great to stream new music first, then buy the vinyl for the things I really like.
I cannot take credit for this bargain. It was a recommendation on the Scottish Fourm take a guess by whom

Sorry for not replying sooner, Joe
So far I’ve only cleaned, [and fitted proper poly-paper inner-sleeved] and played two albums, Communique, and Making Movies.
They’re very nice well made pressings, 2 of the 6 albums are double so it’s an 8 x LP set altogether on Back To Black / Mercury - pressed at Pallas, Germany.
Vinyl is flat [no sign of any warping] on black vinyl.
Very nicely presented in the original design covers, and including a very disposable token download card for all six in MP3.
I’d not heard Communique before today, found it nice musically but leaves me with reservations of whether these remasters are better or worse than originals. I don’t have any original Dire Staits vinyl to compare with nowadays so will continue to wonder on.
I used to own an original LP of Making Movies, this re-issue LP sounds very dynamic in music and recording quality but still leaves me with suspicions over digitalized sound, and also note the volume knob doesn’t need to be turned up very high for things to get loud enough.
These albums were mastered by Bob Ludwig, and with lacquers cut by Chris Bellman and Bernie Grundman - I don’t have a clue who they are but would be very interested to know what Bob did? [and why?] to the mastering exactly (?)
The bottom line is I need more time to clean & re-inner-sleeve, and hear the rest of these albums but after playing 2 of the albums I feel I’ve had my fill of Dire Straits for a little while ; )
Debs
Music on Vinyl reissue. Nicely done.
Latest Arcade Fire - Reflektor with digital download included.
Latest Blue Rodeo - In Our Nature - with CD included
The Velvet Underground - Scepter Studio Sessions - vinyl re-issue
Bugge Wesseltoft- new conception of jazz: moving
Contains my favourite tune: Yellow is the colour

Thanks for the report, Debs! The originals I have sound great and I have doubles on many of them. I think I'll stand pat with what I have.
I hope you enjoy your set. After your break, may I suggest you listen to the 'Love Over Gold' LP next? 'Telegraph Road' is wonderfully recorded.
