I have this and it's much better than my uk original issue IMO. Mind you I also thought blonde on blonde was excellent also but I only had a late 80's copy to compare it to. Be interested to see what you think once you play it.

Hi Graham

I definitely recommend them for the SQ.The only problem is with Blue Matter which I need to exchange because it's pressed slightly of center.I hope the replacement is OK.

Just landed this. An original 60s stereo pressing - just sounds superb.

Thanks Steve.

Have you any preference regarding the music?

Good luck with the replacement was it from Amazon?

Probably lean slightly to Blue Matter but then I do like live tracks and I've been listening to louisiana Blues a lot on you tube recently.

Got them from Rock Box never had a problem with returns, may even get Andrew in mailorder dept to unseal and check before sending.

Hi Steve & Graham,

I bought the recent reissue of Blue Matter, I don't know why as I have both the stereo and mono 1st presses. The SQ of the reissues isn't bad but, as usual, not a patch on the originals. I'll play them for you when you come around.

Steve I can well believe the originals sound a lot better. I'll probably hunt down an original Blue Matter  some in the near future.

I did a bit more digging on the Hellbound train a bought recently. It's got the first press matrix numbers,at nine o'clock there's a 1 which means first mother and at 3 o'clock a C which is 3rd stamper,  but the label is like the one in the picture so still no wiser as to what pressing it is.

That's a first press Steve. Decca released, at that time, with both blue and green labels, depending on what was around.

I'm pleased you like Blue Matter. Keep an eye out for A Step Further which is also a studio side one and live side two.

It was pressed in stereo and mono, they're both excellent.

Thanks for that Steve. I'll keep a look out for A Step Further.

Yours came quick Steve. Mine's on it's way. I have the original US pressing and the US quad (which is so different). There is a big difference in sound quality comparing my original US pressing to other later UK/US ones. Most pressings of this lp are muddy.

I thought the Blonde On Blonde was good.

Graham,

have both those Decca reissue pressings and imho feel them holding back on SQ,

i just know it could be better.

However, Voodoo Moon / 2012 reissue on the RUF label [German pressing] sounds better in SQ to my ears, and a better buy for 17 quid

Daft Punk RAM and Kings of Leon, both great albums.

This was waiting for me when I got home - "Desire" on MOFI, on 2 x 45rpm discs. No. 002474. Will give it a spin later:

Hi Kevin,

Mine was waiting also. No. 002483.

I've played the first LP after a clean on the Keith Monks. First impressions? Compared to the original they have done a similar job to the Blonde On Blonde reissue. In other words they've dumbed it down and it sounds less dynamic. Some will like it I'm sure but the jury's out for me until I've had a few plays.

Am playing Side 1 now Steve. My first impression is that it sounds nice and clear, but a bit "slow" and a bit lacking in excitement (and I know it's not my system, which is nothing if not possessed of a high boogie factor, providing excitement in spades).

A pity, but I will give it time...

Thank you very much for the link. Think I will give it a go.

Arrived this morning from Amazon.uk

Another old band that is very new to me,

but enjoying  them so much on spoty i had to flex my plastic squander card...

Just hoping these 'Not Bad Records' are actually very good.

Debs,

I replied to your post but it went off for moderation and hasn't been seen since. I can't think for the life of me why. I didn't use any bad language.

Hopefully it will appear. In the meantime will you play the first track on side one of 'Remains...'? I sent mine back because there was a pause in the track like a digital dropout and the SQ of that track seemed jittery. See if yours is the same.

Steve,

I've got a split second pause about a third of the way though track 2 of side 1 on Remains.

Still haven't played all the album yet although the SQ seems 'okay' i'm happy with that anyway : )

Do you mean track 2 of side 1 for the pause?

lasts about half a second?

There's a huge static build up on my uncleaned record so i must tend to that next ; )

Debs

It could be Debs. I thought it was track 1 but I could be mistaken.

The Groundhogs - Hogwash coming from the same seller as Blues Obituary.

Paul Rodgers "The Royal Sessions" all analogue recording even marked as AAA arrived to day!

Looking forward to playing it.

Hi Debs,

You obviously didn't see my post on the other thread. I bought 'To Mum...' and 'Remains....' as my original of 'To Mum....' wasn't in very good condition and I didn't have 'Remains...' on vinyl.

SQ isn't bad, pardon the pun, but the packaging and labels don't reflect the original Liberty releases. In fact the gatefold covers seem to be a straight facsimile of the CD reissue I bought about 5 years ago with the same sleeve notes inside.

Check the 1st track of 'Remains...'. I sent mine back as there was a pause in the music like a digital dropout and the SQ of that track was 'shaky'.

These are obviously not from the original analogue masters and probably cut from the CD masters. I payed very little for them and the SQ could be a lot worse so I'm keeping 'To Mum...'. They just could have been so much better.

I have lovely minty 1st presses of the first two albums and they are superbly recorded.

The SQ of these reissues is such that if you have nothing to compare with they are still enjoyable and the music is superb, especially 'Dr Dunbar's Prescription', my personal favourite.

Ah! Steve,

The moderated post hath mysteriously returned!

I think they had to delete the lyrics of the monkey nuts song

But thank you for the info’ and I’m more than a bit envious of your 1st pressings.

Must admit - I’m really enjoying this band at the mo’ : )
