Both Bowie albums to replace my wifes knackered copies.

Picked this up yesterday... had been hesitating as it is very pricy (8 lps), but a limited run of 2500 and I hadn't come across one in awhile so figured it was now or never. VERY glad I did. Mastered from the Owsley Stanley's original analogue reels and it is an outstanding recording. Puts you in the room. One of the best live recordings I've heard of the Grateful Dead and that is saying something.

Nice Steve. You must be spending the children's inheritance,   although I'd see them as an investment.  Where did you buy them?

Steve I got them from my local S/H dealer. He had just bought a big collection,I got Coda and in ITTOD on Friday for £10 each then popped in Saturday to see what else was in there and pick up the other 3 for £50.Only the first disc of PG has got a few removal marks on the vinyl other wise none of them look like they've ever been played.

My reissued limited coloured vinyl of this masterpiece from 2002 arrived yesterday:

Max Richter - Memoryhouse

A terrific pressing of a wonderful, wonderful record. If you like anything - anything at all - by Wim Merten, Michael Nyman or Zbigniew Preisner, then you'll love this.

Maybe this is why:

"Vinyl is for me the basic and fundamental medium for hearing recorded music. It is what I first loved and it is ultimately the medium I imagine when I'm working on something. My music is recorded on analogue tape, and it is mixed analogue and mastered analogue. CDs were always horrible and I don't mourn their disppearance one bit, inspite of their convenience, while stuff like mp3 and streaming audio is just really degrading, literally and emotionally. I don't see how a 320K file can be described, in all seriousness as "high resolution" when it is throwing away 3/4 of the data - you know, I put that data in there for a reason..."

Just arrived and is on the LP12 now. As I suspected, it's just a vinyl reissue of the standard bootleg tape that's been doing the rounds for years. Great performance, of course, and a fascinating document of the band in a very early stage of its development.

Just don't expect good sound quality...

This is why I love this forum; seeing what others are listening to and then listening for myself. This music is stunning! A new artist to embrace. But where to start?

Posted on: 07 March 2014 by rodwsmith

Thanks Simon! Memoryhouse is a fantastic record, and while it is available on vinyl worth snapping up - the packaging is fantastic for starters (and the recording purely analogue as above so worth it).

Otherwise, the piece that Richter has become (in)famous for is "Vivaldi:Recomposed"

Even those for whom the very idea of recomposing anyone, let alone Vivaldi, is a complete anathema, have been bowled over by it and usually won around. If you like the Four Seasons, but feel you have over-heard it, then give this a whirl. He did, after all, get Daniel Hope to play on the recording - an achievement and testament in equal measure.

Max Richter is playing at the Royal Albert Hall in October - his concerts tend to sell out very quickly, but I'm sure it will be a great evening.

Enjoy!

I thought that might be the case Kevin. Mine should have arrived today but didn't show. I'm not expecting too much and it didn't cost a fortune.
