Houses of the Holy, 2-LP, 2-CD, book and hi-res download box set, arrived just moment ago. And very nice it looks too.

And another cracking job done with these new masters.

I have the Classic Records 200g of Led Zep IV, and the Classic 180g of Houses, and early impressions are both the new versions are better.

mine have both arrived too. Looking forward to these.

Oh, and Nostalgia has also just been delivered. A happy week to come I think.

Grateful Dead - Live Dead (Mo Fi Gain 2 Ultra)

Great album and fantastic recording. How do you find this Mofi issue? I bought it with great hopes at quite a cost, only to be very disappointed. It is certainly not the original mix but I believe is the version produced for the Golden Road CD box set. I have put this away and much prefer to listen to the original UK vinyl.

Yes, if this was supposedly (half speed) mastered from the original tapes, then all I can say is that someone must have mislabeled the cans!  I have many versions of Dark Star in particular (I actually heard a couple of them live), but like yourself, I prefer listen to these tracks on my original UK vinyl.

The one thing I do like about this recording is Phil's bass - it does seem more prominent in the mix, but this seems to be at the expense of Gerry's vocals and guitar.

It is a numbered limited edition, so I think that my next (and last) play of this MoFi album will be to record it to digital, then I will store it away and sit back for a few years to see if I can recoup my not so small investment by selling it on!

Yes - we seem in agreement! I noticed particularly the disappearance of Jerry's vocals. But the other thing that struck me was the way in which Bill Kreutzmann's percussion, which often drives the movement of the performance has disappeared. The original mix also had Jerry's guitar panning across the speakers - very psychedelic!

The Endless River, Pink Floyd. Arrived just now.

My vinyl copy of Endless River arrived today from Amazon but is going back.
The cardboard mailer had a big dent in one side and LP1 is badly warped!! 
Seem to be getting a lot of warped records recently.
