Atom/Nova update
Posted by: Gazza on 12 July 2017
Trevor, will we have another weekly update on progress in testing and launch timing of the Uniti series, shortly?
I believe there will be an update coming later today.

Stressed?
Thanks Richard
I was just about to ask! Dealer called me at about 3 o'clock said W/C 21 August for physical units to be available and then said "But there are no promises".

Stressed!! Nah....moaning...all the time....to be fair, I've even given up on moaning. Today is the first time in a while, work piss taking is pretty good.
Just in case anyone's missed it, another positive update from Trevor.

Last update sounds promising, good work Naim
It sounds like Naim have had significant challenges in getting the required certification for the new Uniti range. Some might argue this should have been anticipated and lead times should have been set accordingly. The communication was lacking in the early days of the launch but now updates appear professional, honest and timely. A great sign of a company listening to its customers and reacting accordingly.
From what we are hearing in the updates, it seems to me that Naim have been working tirelessly to overcome the issues that have beset them and have shown fortitude and resilience in getting the certification issues sorted.
It seems to me that Naim have taken the criticism head on but that has not deflected them from the task in hand. Their focus and effort are bringing the launch on the Uniti range to fruition. I think they should be applauded. I hope the Uniti range proves to be as successful as it promises to be. And I am sure Naim have learned some valuable lessons which can only serve to strengthen them in the future.
I've just noticed ( and downloaded) an updated Naim app, which offers "Support for Uniti Atom". Sorry if this is old news, but looks like another step closer.
Yes , I have seen this and my iPad/muso were showing no "bonjour" details if I tried to check updates for muso. Downloaded the App and all seems to be OK. So hopefully the Atom content means they are close to launch, Trevor said he would get back to the forum if he had news
Please do let me know what Planet Nigel b lives on as i would love to visit.

It would be more enlightening if you gave your point of view on the topic rather than decend to a personal attack - or don't they do that on your planet!
And hopefully the fact that Devialet now can receive a Roon stream via Ethernet that Naim will "turn on" the Roon compatibility in the atom as soon as possible.
I'm surprised Naim are introducing things like chromecast before Roon but maybe if they are the first with chromecast it will open new markets to them.
I love my SuperUniti but might be tempted to give it as 21st present to my son if the nova became Roon compatible before his birthday. (Next March-so plenty of time).

Nigel, your post has great intentions but Naim candidly have created a debacle that’s has left many immensely frustrated. Communication to forum members has improved since the MD stepped in although even that should have been handled differently in my view as once this type of Marcom starts there’s no turning back.
The dearlers in my experience have not helped either. It’s evident that they have either been consistently being mis-advised by Naim Reps or, have made it up as they have gone along.
”Appluaded” is where the flash point is in your post I think, that’s the element where your post is a little inflammatory for some. Naim have kept very loyal customers waiting for months, poor comms, Inconsistent updates, no dealer control, price increase threats, multiple false launch date suggestions and for many cash tied up with dealers as they don’t want to be affected by the price hike or loose their place in the “limited availability at launch” queue.
Others have moved kit on too in prep for the new line, in good faith - on the back of these statements.
I genuinely hope the product exceeds expectations, Naim cannot have another Core situation either.
it has to be right first time, I will give Naim credit for that, certainly making the decision not to release until 100%. They must know not getting it right will damage the Brand further.

Wonderful….a reasoned and cogent response.
Yes, I agree Naim have not covered themselves in glory here (neither have the dealers) and I hope I made that clear in my first paragraph.
I also agree that it must be frustrating for those that have moved kit on and/or have put money down, but I do note from some of the many posts on the topic of the delay, there appears to be an element who just seem to be throwing their toys out of the pram because their new toy has still not arrived. Not all, but some.
Naim have screwed up, no two ways about it. Their failing was to underestimate the time it takes to get the new line to market, particularly the certification process where they are dealing with large third party organisations over whom they have no control and who do not share Naim's priorities. The subsequent failing was the poor communication to customers (and possibly to dealers, but we can't be sure of that one). Points already well made I think.
Possibly my use of the word 'applauded' was a little excessive. I do however feel that it takes a degree of single-mindedness and focus to get complex issues resolved in the heat of considerable commercial/customer pressure. You have made the point that it is vital that the new kit when it arrives is a good as it can be, although I am sure there will be the usual software updates once out there in the field in volume. But the kit must be fit for purpose, a point Naim I am sure are very aware of.
Although streaming technology is now well established, it is still developing and Naim are increasing functionality (and hopefully robustness). So I still detect some growing pains here with Naim that bigger competitors have probably gone through. I does seem now that we are very close to launch - I certainly hope so.
Thanks Nigel. Very fair and balanced response, and we all agree with your last paragraph I’m sure.
All the best.
Thank you Lord_Hillier.
Nigel, apologies to you as you seem to have taken offence to my comment. Which was not the intention. I would add - it is not a case of people "throwing Toys", but when brand loyal Customers are led up the garden path with the many facets that Lord_Hillier eluded to in his reply to you. I am surprised that there were not more comments to your choice of words and the sentiment you expressed. As L_H stated, there are a number of us who quite frankly, are getting quite fed up with Naims handling of this laughable episode.
Why the big Fanfare eight months ago? It would of been a whole lot more professional if Naim had rolled out a soft launch back in November, making their Customer aware of the new product line, but with a more accurate and achievable release date. Naim were aware that the certifications and whatever else is continuing to hold up the Hardware release would not of been approved/rectified within a matter of weeks.
Granted, the recent updates have been more truthful, but are still a little"flakey" nonetheless.
There comes a point when us mere mortals will say enough - were off to Planet ATC!
Ciao
Richard - any more news due on this subject? Trevor suggested a possible update by the end of last week - the app has also been updated too reflecting the new model set-up.
Thanks

LH,
so far Trevor has been giving weekly progress reports so I'd imagine you will have some further news within the next few days..
True to form - another flakey update today! Well done.
Saw the new Nova today. Looks superb and sounded great on a brief listen. Beautiful industrial design with its brushed aluminium casing and great high resolution display. Will make Naim many new customers I think.
