250-2 to 300 non DR
Posted by: Bob the Builder on 08 September 2017
I have the chance to trade my 250-2 and my ND5XS for a non DR Nap 300. I have started a thread in the Streaming section regarding the loss of the ND5 but I also have a couple of concerns about changing amps.
My speakers are Dynaudio X32 and I have a 282 in a living room that is 6 x 6 m do people think that the 300 is a good idea in this set up.
Simply said, yes good idea. I read your concern as you would fear the 300 is too much for the room. So forget that concern. It's about the quality of the sound you can achieve with the 300. And the 300 is totally in another league - obviously it deserves a better source as your original ND5XS ....
Thanks Bert I do have an LP12 but as far as my digital front end goes without the ND5XS I would still have the Chord 2Qute and for the time being would use my macbook and that as my digital source I have started a thread in the streaming section asking for advice on how to best utilise that.

similar thread on same subjet this week
i have a non DR 300 in a smalier room and love it - grip, seperation, they musicality of the 300 is outstanding - presenation of the music it slightly different to the 250, but that said it is an outstanding AMP
Thanks Anthony I have read through that recent thread it was one of the reasons I'm considering this upgrade. I'm pretty sure the 300 is a better amp than the 250DR my concerns were that my speakers and the size of my room were up to the task and also how the 282 would cope.
Although I understand that the 252 is the natural partner for the 300 I believe lots of people have had great success with a 282/300 system I use a 3rd party psu on my 282 that replicates 2 Hicap's and a Napsc although I do still use a separate Naim Napsc. I know that a Supercap is the better option and is a viable one for me probably next year so I'm going to have to stick with the 3rd party psu for now, has anyone chosen or stuck with a 282 even after trying a 252 I wonder as I really love my 282.
The DR upgrade and service on the 300 is about 1,800 pounds I think and if at some point in the next few years I can afford that I will have an amp that will be with me always and if a Supercapped 282 can live with it that would be perfect as 252 may be a stretch too far for me but who knows as long as people keep paying me to knock their houses in to shape it may yet happen but first off I have complete this 300 trade.
Have 282 HCDR, with my 300, it does not lack for detail focus, 252 offers something different which you like or don't, for me my system is right for me now, I would possibly look at SCDR but unti then I am more than happy with the balance,
worked closely with my dealer who I can't praise highly enough to get to where I am, I just love listening to music now with the 300! Sublime
It's been said more than once that the 300 - DR or not - is a great companion for the 282. And of course it can successfully partner the 272. Go for it

Using a 272/XPS DR and I think its a great match. The 300, DR'd or not (I've heard both with my kit) offers so much more music. In my case, I was able to purchase a pre-loved 10 year old 300 that had received the DR upgrade last year. If you can justify the additional costs, then go for it. You will likely not regret it. I've only had mine for about month or so and glad I went for it.
Looks like I'm going ahead with the trade Nd5xs + 250-2 for a 300 seems a good deal to me. The 300 is around 12 years old so due a service but at over 400 pounds that may have to wait until early next year.
