Upgrade from 272/250DR to 272/300DR

Hi,
currently have 272/250DR with PMC 25.23. Use a non-Naim XPS into 272.
Looking at upgrading to 2nd hand 300DR recently serviced.
Listen mainly to rock and electronic. Sitting position is about 8-9ft from speakers.
Good idea?

Seems like I saw him post he wouldn’t 300 without 555PS but I won’t speak for him. Maybe I have it backwards.
Yes GSR, I would do this. The 272/XPS-DR/250DR is superb but slotting in the 300DR just makes music flow effortlessly and naturally. It's a sit back, forget the hifi and just enjoy the music type of upgrade from my experience.
Note this is with an XPS-DR rather than your alternative.

I think there's a different reason to dessert if HH hasn't shown up yet. My opinion only, but he's posted here and there, lately...
If the 300 is a too good to miss bargain then go for it, on the proviso that a 555DR is doable in the future. If it’s one or the other, the 555 is the one to go for.

I’ve been eating my dinner and writing Christmas cards. Some things are more important than Naim boxes.
The NAP 300 is a wonderful step up from the albeit great 250, if you can afford it, do it, after a demo though.
See I told you he was having his dinner.
Oh and if you have the chance of getting a 300dr at a good price just buy it.

As someone else who has used a 272 with a non Naim PSU, then added a 300DR and then upgraded to the 555DR I completely support HH's view.

Exchange the 272 for an NDX (and keep the PS for it) and buy a 282. You'll still end up with 3 boxes but you'll have a better source and Pre.
And total silence.

Need a PSU Dan for 282 so either 3.5 or 4 box system

It seems even our friends from across the Channel prefer quiet systems.
282/hicap/ ndx/ xps/ 250 or 272/ xps/ 300? i feel the former must be better sounding, but a bit more expensive probably, all in used market of course.

Change the 272/XPS to 272/555dr could be a different result

the 272, from what i think to understand, is a sort of 202/ nd5xs combo. 272/ 555 ps may be like 202/supercap/ nd5xs/555ps. Better than 282/hicap/ ndx/ xps ? not sure, but should be confronted. My feeling goes to the 282/ ndx quattro....
Here in Australia a 282/HiCap/NDX2 is pretty much the same price as a 272/555 combo. If things go as planned I will be heading for one or the other next year. It will be hard to get a demo as the local dealer has the 272 as a stock line but doesn't keep 555s or 282s on the floor. So this thread is of great interest.
