What is the latest music you downloaded, what resolution and from where?

With more music being downloaded I thought it might be interesting to see what forum members are buying and from where.
The news that HD Tracks are soon to open an online UK store means that more choice is going to be available to us. The variety and quality of downloadable music we can choose from is expanding, MP3 to 24bit studio Masters at 192kHz and beyond.
So what are you buying and downloading?

Tell me Bert do you download all of the albums you post on here?

Hi Bill,
Yes I have them all downloaded on my NAS. I had a kind of catch up for classical music to get at a die enough collection to be able to choose out of two or three executions of major works. For the coming year I will witch to a pick and choose approach of maximum 3/4 albums - as I have now the base collection I was striving for.

Ps - my collection is now between 4500 and 5000 albums. I think some other people on the forum do have an even bigger collection.

!!! In 25 years I've managed to accumulate a quarter of that amount. Take care not to fall into the same trap I did and start taking art for granted, Bert.
All the best,
EJ

Wow Bert, you have a bigger one than me!

Hi EJ,
thanks for the concern. I have and will never take art for granted. The problem is that I have a very wide variety of interests in music - ranging from light classical to dirty heavy rock music...., so I have collections in multiple directions. To also always have something to play whatever my mood is. By the way the core of my collection was also formed in 20+ years - so I have only invested a lot in classical recently.
cheers,
bert
Made some excellent downloads through bandcamp
Boys will be boys.
I'm listening to the 24-96 Pono Remaster of Beck's Sea Change. Sounds quite nice. I have a few other hi res Pono remasters to listen to yet (Neil Young, not surprisingly).
Luke Howard - Two & One (24/44.1)
This is definitely in the "If you like Nils Frahm's Felt" category. Gentle stuff, mostly piano with the occasional treatment. Beautiful, and just $3: http://music.lukehoward.com/album/two-one
This goes nicely with his Sun, Cloud (16/44.1) album (also on Bandcamp) which is much more varied in its arrangements, though just as beautiful (but a pricier $10): http://music.lukehoward.com/album/sun-cloud
Sibelius Symphony 2 Boston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Andris Nelsons - from BSO's own website in 24/96 sound taken from a live performance - a bargain at only $10.99, coupled with Wagner's Tannhauser overture.
Thanks for that Chris. Are there any regional restrictions to downloading from BSO website ?
David, I had no problem. I am in the uk and registered with a UK email address, gave my address, and paid with a UK Mastercard. Downloaded without difficulty and have played it right through - sounds great.

Also have a listen to "Bach: Sonatas & Partitas for solo violin" by the fabulous Isabelle Faust. She is an awesome violinist, you can't believe it is one person+one violin playing. This album sends shivers up and down my spine.
ps this is also on the brilliant Hamonia Mundi label.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the tip, I actually by accident did listen to that specific album yesterday. And indeed it's something very special.
Cheers,
Bert
So after this I will be back to reserved buying.....
I just filled a last gap in my collection of jazz - Enrico Rava - Qobuz and Bandcamp
Alfred Schnittke - Choir Concerto
I heard part of this on Radio 3 last night and fell in love. I normally find Schnittke a bit of a hard ride, but this just grabbed me by the dangly bits and off I went to Hyperion and downloaded it: http://www.hyperion-records.co...dc.asp?dc=D_CDA67297
It's a big piece, both in length (40 minutes) and in scale (it's a very big choir), and isn't always a smooth journey (so if you're looking for more Jenkins/Lauridsen/Whitacre there'll be a bit of a jar - not dismissing those at all mind you).
But it's quite simply majestic.
16/44 btw
