Football Season 2017/18

Posted by: Kevin-W on 11 July 2017

As requested by Steve (Paper Plane) on the 16/17 thread, here's a new one for 2017/18. All leagues/divisions welcome.

Come on you Irons!

Essex police have asked a West Ham fans not to keep ringing 999 about their teams performance, it may be criminal to have to watch it, but an abuse of the 999 number.

At one down and about 10 mins before the break, I'm not sure Kevin will be enjoying his half-time Bovril   :-(

I bet he isn't.  It will be interesting to see how the home crowd react if the Hammers can't turn things round early in the second half.

hey, hey, hey! 1-1

I watched the Arsenal -Spurs game and really enjoyed it.Thought Arsenal looked good and was surprised how average Spurs where.Must have made your day that result.

Will be watching Brighton - Stoke tonight will be  a massive result for Brighton if they win for their staying up points tally which is very respectable and team confidence.

Yes the Super Seagulls are doing themselves proud and really deserved to get all three points against Stoke instead of one but what a massive game for them up at Old Trafford this weekend!

After losing to the sc/Arsenal at least we got it right in the Champions League..!  Poor WHU, maybe bubbles maybe not still 1-1

Well a point and an energetic performance from the Hammers isn't too bad.

I was there Mike, and the atmosphere did turn very toxic (and blue) after the Leicester goal, but half an hour in, the WHU players decided to put in a shift and the mood of the crowd markedly improved - especially just before HT, when Kouyate's scruffy goal went in.

In the second half the fans ignited in song and chant and there was the best atmosphere in the Dildodome since we mashed the Spuds there last season.

We're still lacking in quality and decent finishing, there's a tendency for us to get overrun in midfield and Caroll is an artless donkey most of the time; but there were glimmers of hope - better work rate, more running, better disclipline, more togetherness and perhaps the best performance this season from Arnie.

Not sure we're going to escape a relegation scrap, but we looked better prepared for a fight than we did a month ago. Wednesday's away game at the Toffees (who have plenty of problems of their own) is going to be massive.

This is the most demoralising season for a very long time at EFC. Looks like the relegation battle begins in November for us both!

Moyes did a very good job for us as manager, without the mega-bucks made available by the EFC board and  "invested" by Mr "Indifferent" Koeman in the summer. I wish him well, just not next week!

Good result Kev .Good that you can see an improvement. Was Noble on the bench ?

They said on Talk Sport his form has been a bit average lately but commitment still good from him.

Today Sundays fixtures

Southampton- Everton is a hard one to call.Big game for both clubs.

Burnley - Arsenal is going to be tasty - as really rate Burnley. They should win it if there playing as well as they did with the Spuds last Saturday.

Huddersfield - City I am a bit nervous. Then I was about Leicester away last Saturday and we outplayed them.Lucky that Kompany wasn't sent off in the first half there but got the points non the less.

Saints players know where the goals are located but only because of Google Earth

Nobes didn't play Ian. He may be very slow these days - and let's face it a bit rubbish - but there is no denying his commitment to the cause. If we were playing the likes of Spuds or Millewall, there's no doubt most fans would want Nobes as captain.

I only caught the second half of today's Saints v Everton game but on that basis Saints looked comfortable and well-worth their win.  Everton looked a team short on confidence and of a game-plan.  They don't lack quality players but something needs happening quickly at Goodison if they are to avoid a relegation battle.

Great result for the Arsenal thought we played very well and deserved to win.

Regrettably, I watched the whole thing. Saints were vastly superior in every department and phase of play and so thoroughly deserved their win, which should have been by an even bigger margin. I don't see any way back for EFC, whoever is the next manager.

A very blue Blue

Vlad, your game against us on Wednesday really is a six-pointer. For both teams.

On this form, we'll be lucky to get nil!

Following an afternoon at St Mary's I can genuinely say that at half time it looked to me like we were watching two poor teams, only with one slightly poorer than the other. We will never know what was said in the Saints dressing room but they found it so easy to get into the spaces left behind Everton's back four in the second half.

I don't really believe in any 'single great man' theory but it's possible that losing Baines (maybe at fault for Saints' first)  was the catlayst that opened Everton up at the back.

With sizeable, voluble support travelling from the NW for a 1.30 kick off, something needs to happen to stop a great club nose-diving into the Championship.

Professionally I can add that the bright, overcast day was the best light that I've worked in all season :-)

If it's any consolation to Vlad (and Blueknowz and others) the top rated comment on the BBC site is words to the effect that, ' I left a couple of tickets for the Everton game on my car's dashboard. But some b*stard has smashed the windscreen and left me two more'.

Well chuffed for City with the Huddersfield result - was nervous about that game but we dug in and dominated possession 80 %......WTF !   Stirling saved us again with his goal in the 85 minute just like Bournemouth away when it was 1 -1.Its the most excited season for years being a City supporter. Iam in Blue Moon heaven - just loving what Peps doing .

Nice result Chris for the Saints hope things have turned a corner at St.Marys.

Thanks Ian. I believe Saints' next outing will be at the Etihad on Wednesday evening. I hope we respect City, yes, but not give them too much respect on the night.

But enough of the football, I will miss the banter with Hodgy and the others in Rose's tearoom. 'Now sit down and tuck your feet under the table, what would you like? You can't have fancy cakes until you've had your soup and sandwiches'.

Stretching it a bit that this may be a metaphor for winning football teams. But not much.

With Regard to Rosie's tea hospitality with the press there is something lovely in a club with characters that have been there for years - all clubs must have them the backroom staff. Can imagine the City players all on diets from dieticians these days as most clubs have.

Looking at a home win Wednesday night but.......

Wishing you a good day Chris.....off to work now....oh the Monday morning joy !

Thanks Ian, have a good one too mate.

Leicester 2-1 over Spurs. As I was saying about Claude Puel....

Another rout, with Citeh, the Arse and the Chavs up next. We'll be bottom by Xmas...

Maybe the effect of Big Sam in the stands. Doesn't help missing a pen, though.
