Football Season 2017/18

Posted by: Kevin-W on 11 July 2017

As requested by Steve (Paper Plane) on the 16/17 thread, here's a new one for 2017/18. All leagues/divisions welcome.

Come on you Irons!

If he's fit, Wilshere is class, but I agree your underlying sentiment.  I'm hoping Southgate will trust in youth and potential, drawing on the success already shown by the U21's and junior England squads.  That said, I'd definitely take Vardy. His style is not what most international defenders are used to.

Oh and I'd also take Ward-Prowse. That young man's dead-ball delivery is excellent (which thought brings back horrible memories of Hodgson used Kane to take corners at the last tournament

Well DONE Everton for drawing with Liverpool.  That really helps us...!

Well done Liverpool. A stunning result over the two legs. Who would have predicted 5-1? But, but.............even that performance has to be eclipsed by the magnificent Roma, beating the mighty Barca 3-0 at home to progress.  Oh, don't you just love this game!

So nearly another shock result to night. I could almost shed a tear for brave Juve. Particularly sorry to see Buffon go out in such circumstances.  But it was a penalty, and didn't the ice-cool Ronaldo despatch it emphatically!

Juventus played a briiliant match, but what a tough way to lose a series!  I agree it was a penalty, and Buffon deserved the red.

Nice to see diversity in the semis, with clubs from each of the UK, Italy, Spain and Germany.

Champions League semis draw:

Liverpool v Roma

Bayern Munich v Real Madrid

Europa League semi-finals:

Arsenal v Atletico Madrid

Marseille v RB Salzburg

Thats a nice draw for Liverpool. It shouldn't be too long before they can start singing "six" at Man U fans.

Yep. I hope they go all the way and win it. Klopp deserves it.

Another Evertonian here. I'm really looking forward to this season. We've bought astutely and we've bought early for a change. Koeman's getting rid of our  "inferiority complex" players. Brought in skillful players with great work-rate, the tempo will be totally different and we won't have to tailor our play to just the one striker. I really like what's happening!

COYB!

A lot of entertaining reading in here ... just wondered about your current view of the season’s proceedings? (As I plan my trip to Kiev???????????? ...)

With Huddersfield and Palace winning, it's not looking good at St Mary's. How did the rest of you do, I add, inclusively?!

Pleased with Liverpool's result today as it moves us a little closer to Champions League qualification in spite of Chelsea's win today.

I saw Pompey had a 0-0 at Home Park.

Yes, Chris. I would have taken that result if offered it before the game. Keeps us in with a chance of a play-off place - not that our performance over the season has merited that - as we've hit a bit of form in the last six or so games. Momentum seems more important than quality sometimes (good and bad).

Crazy to think there's now a slim possibility that those classic South Coast derbies could be resurrected in the Championship next season.  But I suspect there will be twists and turns yet.

BTW I was pleased to see the Eagles finally get three points in a game. They've been playing well in recent weeks but having rotten luck.  Still hopeful they will survive.

Absolutely. To be in the play-offs with momentum is the thing. We could be meeting sooner than we think!

Well done to City. A team that plays proper football. For the most part, you were on a different planet to the rest of us this season

Hopefully, the mighty Spurs will push you for the title next year ! However, every season the competition gets tougher.

Well done Newcastle today. After a little faux pas by the Lillywhite boys yesterday, today seems so much brighter........
