System Pics 2018

Welcome to System Pics 2018.

To start things off, here are a couple of pictures of my setup. There have been some big changes over the past year; a 300 and a 555PS, and some extra shelves to accommodate them.

Looking good Fabio. Enjoy. Love the vintage Marantz tuner in your setup too

PS: Trivia note... That nodding head emoji is keeping perfect time with Billy Cobham's "Cancun Market" from the album "Palindromes"...

Or "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee-Gees...................................

Could be useful if ever you find yourself doing CPR then!

Nellie the Elephant works rather well too.

My first steps on the Naim ladder.... (everything is level, my camera isn't).

Nice - like that

Nice to see a bit of colour on the walls instead of the usual sterile white!

A water leak upstairs above the lounge has necessitated redecoration of the room which is currently a soft magnolia & pale yellow.

The leak rained on the carpet but luckily missed the 3 week old ATC  SCM100 active sprakers and the two Fraim stacks + black boxes.   This has been a test of my John Lewis insurance which I switched to a year ago after reading a thread on this forum... so far, full marks to John Lewis insurance... very helpful and haven't argued with the claim.

But I now have the opportunity to change the room colour, particularly the wall against which sits the TV, the speakers, the two turntables & the Fraim stacks. I want to make this a dark, feature wall and have been looking at posts on this thread for inspiration. As Bob the Builder observes, most folk have neutral, pastel walls... but TK421's choice of blue (above) stopped me in my tracks.

For this one feature wall I had been thinking dark grey, but I'm now impressed with what a dark blue could do (I'm thinking more a midnight blue than TK's).

I know it makes no sense at all to ask the question " What colour do you suggest?"  since colour, even more than SQ, is a very personal thing, nonetheless, I'll ask just that question in the hope that someone will have a suggestion that I hadn't thought of (like TK's deep blue).  If you've done it and can post a pic, that would be tremendously helpful, if no pic, then words will likewise be helpful.

...and for all the users of striped paint and mirrored ceilings... I probably won't be influenced by you but your suggestions will be taken seriously  (possibly), and will certainly be appreciated.

Thanks,     Roger

How about a Victorian / William Morris type wall paper?

Here’s an example, but lot to choose from...

Very fine indeed. I'm impressed.

Thanks Eloise.

For me, it's a little on the 'busy' side of calm... at my age (over 21) I'm not sure my brain would handle this whilst concentrating on music... but thanks for your thoughts, I certainly hadn't considered the patterned wallpaper option before.  I'll revisit your post tomorrow when my brain is more awake.

Hi Roger.

I like Pratt & Lambert’s Pagoda Red for accent wall.  Swatch looks icky — massed it looks quite good, and it’s excellent as the lights dim.

It’s not blue, though.

Hi Roger,

Many thanks for your kind words.

The colour I used is a dog branded feature wall emulsion - Teal Tension and to be fair it does look better than in the photo as I think the flash on the camera has played a part.

However, you might wish to check out Sapphire Salute which is definitely a dark blue.

ATB,

Mike

Moderating:  Roger, so the System Pics thread doesn't turn into an episode of Changing Rooms, might I suggest starting a new thread?  Thanks.

I LIKE William Morris, Arts & Crafts movement, etc etc. Beautiful evocative work from the masters. Go for it!

In hindsight Richard you're quite right, that's what I should have done, however I'm not sure how to move what's already been posted, or do you mean leave this as is and start another thread?

Thanks, Roger

Moderating:  Roger, what I mean is for you to start a new thread.

Thanks James, the Marantz is doing well.I took a pic of the system connections before disassembling it last september,so I didn't have to ask the Forum...Of course I blocked my cd 5i and my Superline while I was "driving"them to my new place, even if it’s 100 meters away from my old one.I must say that everything seems to sound better in this room:I think the main reason is due to the diagonal position of the fireplace, and also the ceiling height:I had mt3.70 and now I have mt.3.10.But that's just my opinion.

A distant relative of my in-laws was once married to Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen of the flouncy cuffs and Changing Rooms fame. Now how about that for a claim to fame I knew if I lived long enough I would get a chance to drop that name. Thank you Richard.

Richard, you must feel that moderating this place is much like herding cats!

I do admit to being one of the worst offenders in this regard.

Whilst tidying up my Lightroom library this afternoon, I found this picture from back in 2007. We'd not long moved into a new place, the Motive 2's i had at the time just didn't work in the room and so a pair of n-Sats were procured. Stands were harder to get hold of so a pair of chairs were pressed into use for a few weeks before we ripped out the old fireplace and started decorating the lounge. A pair of n-Sat stands soon followed...

Was there a third n-sat that didn't make it when the music stopped.

nSat on chair made me laugh itself, and the musical chair joke was truly excellent!

Not a system Pic, but certainly one I'm sure you'll all enjoy.  Trevor forwarded this panorama picture to me that he took of the factory during the heavy snowfall last week.

Bet they were in first thing Monday morning.

Heavy snowfall?????? You English have such a funny sense of humor, here in the States that would be called a dusting. Come visit the Midwest in the States sometime in January or Febuary, and you'll experience what an actual heavy snowfall is.
