System Pics 2018

Welcome to System Pics 2018.

To start things off, here are a couple of pictures of my setup. There have been some big changes over the past year; a 300 and a 555PS, and some extra shelves to accommodate them.

Yeah been in touch. Postage is the killer be about $1200 ! ????

There is a pair for sale in Germany as well. Most likely without the foam pads, but at least the shipping cost should be lower.

And you can get new grills from TomTom now so that’s not an issue.

Carey Price stood before the judge, who said "Mr. Price, I will place you with your father"

He replied, "I don't want to be with my father, he beats me!"

The Judge thought, and said, "Very well, I will place you with your mother then."

Price cried out "No, not my mother, she beats me too!"

The judge was perplexed. "Well, then where would you like to go?"

"Put me with the Montreal Canadiens, they don't beat anyone anymore!"

I hope you are not refereeing  games at the professional level, you may experience a misplaced check, a wayward stick, or errant puck when you are at the forum.   .......and if you refereeing at the minor league level they may just send someone down for a game or two..... Keep your head up when your out on the ice!

On the other side of the coin if you are ever in Boston, a bruins fan would be happy to buy you beer, just not a molson.

Thanks Mort2k. They do come up occasionally. If you go to Hifishark and set a reminder on there for SL2 then you’ll get an email when a pair are advertised on the web across Europe. That’s what I did and ended up sourcing my SL2s from The Hague in the Netherlands!

yesh I have a search setup ????. Mind me asking the ball park price a good pair of SL2 go for ? So I can be prepared ????

rob

Rob - for a pair in good condition I think you should reckon on £2k-£3k. An absolute bargain in my opinion.

So the grilles go on and the glass magically refills - like it! Must try that tonight!

If it works for red wine as well, I'll buy a pair of those speakers just for that feature.

Having returned from a full service at Bowers & Wilkins over the Summer the ZX-9 is sounding pretty amazing really.  The sound somehow manages to transcend the limitations of cassette in a way that eludes any other deck I know - including a number of other top end Naks.

Here it is temporarily sat on top of the Naim DAC while I try to make some space for it somewhere on the Fraim stacks.

Oh Richard - you're just not "getting" this are you?

What you should have said is that you'd sent back the ZX-9 to have the S/PDIF upgrade fitted and here it is in use with the Naim DAC...

Best Regards

Phil Harris

In the 11 years I've been at Naim I have tried to impart valuable knowledge and information to the forums and *THIS* has had more "likes" than anything that I've ever posted ...

Now onto The Stones and Through The Past Darkly ( Big Hits Vol 2 ) on SACD.Why? because two of my favourite singles are Jumpin' Jack Flash and Honky Tonk Woman and they sound excellent here

That's great Alan. TTPD on the SACD is excellent.

Any pictures of the system on which it's playing?

Yes. They are from a Naim Dealer in Seattle and are very nice.

Any chance of a bit more info on the system. I recognise the photo from the blue place and was always intrigued what the setup was, particularly the little tin boxes. Those speakers (Harbeth 40.1 ?) look the business

Amazing write up by the dealer with granular detail. He has two pairs in cherry for sale. Part of a full Naim system he is selling on behalf of a customer.

Very cool Fred, love the room too

Are those the Neat Explorers.

Thank you, Lewis.
They are Neat Iota Explorers, indeed. Went to my friend to listen to my old Sbls yesterday. Boy, are they different, Sbls are much harder and rougher on the ear. The Xplorer are much kinder, though they are just as open and detailed. Warmer. On rock the SBLs give a very engaging listen, perhaps more than the Xplorer, but the Neats let me listen to much more music without getting tired in the ear. Miss the directness and roughness of the SBls on some songs, but love the bigger sounding and more listenable Neats, which also is gives loads of prat, yet in another way. The Neats make me turn the volume up, the sbls makes me sometimes want to turn the volume down.

SBLs sounding hard and rough? Whatever is your friend doing to them?

I better post a photo of mine sounding warm and cuddly given the thread...

Stu

Posted on: 09 March 2018 by Clive B

I do miss my SBLs! But I would never have described them as 'warm and cuddly', nor 'hard and rough', certainly not the latter. Somehow they just suited whatever music they were asked to play.

Posted on: 09 March 2018 by Dave***t

Clive, do you mean miss your SBLs as in think they might have been better than NBLs after all (surely not?) or as in remember fondly?
