System Pics 2018

Welcome to System Pics 2018.
To start things off, here are a couple of pictures of my setup. There have been some big changes over the past year; a 300 and a 555PS, and some extra shelves to accommodate them.

Diagonal across one corner to the opposite corner is a positional situation I can very much advocate. If you have an otherwise " difficult " room that's square or seems to be plagued by standing waves. Or just because it sounds so damm better than when standing like sentry knights protecting the fireplace.
"when standing like sentry knights protecting the fireplace".
That P9 looks much better than the new RP8 and RP10 types.

Hi..HIFIman.
Put Naim Fraim Chips under your Speaker-stand's and Naim Fraim rack, and take away the Linn Skeet's you have there. If you have done your installation-work right with "Attention To Detail",the musicality is much better with Naim Chips.....but you must have it "rock solid" ????????. Naim Fraim rack and stand's spike's, are better direct on floor than on Linn Skeet......but as I say,Chips are the best.
Also,I don't know who I shall explane it in english.....but I try.Move your whole Naim rack forward a little from the wall....say 5cm if I see it right on your picture's. So the Spike's are in the middle of the wood on the floor, hope you understand what I mean.
If you have an LP12 on top of the Fraim-rack and do this.....the musical-presentation should be so much better. The first time I experienced this was 1986 with an IKEA Lack Table under the LP12. After that we have try this with all kind of rack's....Fraim,Mana and whatever you think of. Where you put the spike's on the floor is VERY,VERY IMPORTANT for soundquality ❗
/Peder ????
Thanks for your advice on moving the Fraim foward by 5cm I will give this a try later. In the next few months I'm looking to move the Fraim to the other side of the room but require longer lengths of NACA5 but the speakers will remain in the current position this will add greater distance from the kit to the speakers.
Future I may look into Fraim chips but they don't come cheap hence why I opted for the Linn but I take on board your advice.
cheers
HIFIMAN,
Hope you are enjoying the New Rack, looks great.

6 cm is probably better. Please explain about the spikes on the floor?
HIFIman ????????????.
Great, that you take your record-player and Naim-rack away from the corner.Corners is not the best place for hifisystems,I think you can look forward for better soundquality when you have done this.I must also say, nice looking system.
I know Naim Chips not come cheap, maybe your dealer have a set, so you can try at home before you buy it. I have a set of 8 chips that I don't use right now,I made a sendlist to our forum members so they can try it in their system. 14 members to this date, have try'd it,everyone of them have Linn Skeets before....they have now Fraim Chips ????????????.
As we say here in Sweden,Linn Skeet's is good for one thing.....when you "tunning" speakers, after that.....TAKE IT AWAY. It's better with the spike's direct against the floor,....if we talk "musical flow".
◾ Linn Skeet has the pressure on the side's of the spikes,if you understand what I mean.
◾ Naim Chips has the pressure on the tip of the spike's. Different thinking, when the made this product,...also different material.
/Peder ????
Skeets, spikes, sides.

Short back and sides.
But as I get older short on the top.

Cheers Wenger.
The Fraim has really opened the sound in all directions, bigger than my expectations and coming from a none believer of what a quality rack can bring.
Wonder if anyone has ever conducted a blinded listening test of Skeets vs Chips vs Tuppence coins? I use Chips under my Focals and Skeets under my racks. Both do the job for me.

◾Tested Chips vs Skeet's,of course, otherwise I haven't give the advice.
◾ Tuppence coins,I don't know what that is.
We have tested this on all kind of floors and also concrete floor's,...both under different rack's and speakers. From entry-level system to top-spec system.....both Linn and Naim. But of course....it's always best to try this at home on your own floor.
Both do the job,but Naim Chips do it better....everyone here in Sweden, that are in contact with us, who have compared Chips vs Skeet's came to the same conclusion, that Chips are better.
We don't listen for cleaner, clearer (hifi-sound) even if it's there to.....we only go for the musical presentation,.....the "musical flow".....the "foot or toe tapping" factor ????.If it's there, you can listen for hours and hours and don't get tired ????????????.
But remember,it's important that the rack,speaker-stands are "rock solid" before you compare. And that you have it on exact the same place.
For us,as I say earlier, spike's direct on floor is better than Linn Skeet's in between. The construction design and material, between this to is so different as I also say earlier.
But Skeet's are cheap, maybe because of that so many buy them and not listen and compare. You shall always listen.....everything matters❗
The first time I see Linn Skeet's (many, many years ago), I say to my self....this is not good if we talk soundquality. If you see the construction-detail,Linn's Skeet has the pressure on the sides of the spike's....not on the tip. But Skeet's,as I say earlier is good when you shall "tunning speakers".....after that...take it away from the system.
Hope you can understand my english,if I could explain this in swedish here,I have write a book of details about this subject for you...????????.

Bob the Builder posted:ChrisH posted:I broke my 3 box rule this weekend when I bought a HiCap DR after borrowing it for a couple from weeks from my dealer.
it made a noticeable instant difference in my system, adding a richness of sound compared to without it, all the usual things you get when adding a Naim power supply. Good ‘bang for the buck’ in my opinion, very happy with it as an upgrade.
I was originally thinking of a different future change, but the recent new streamer announcements pushed me in a different direction, at least for now.
Just need to get another shelf now!
By the way, would I be right in assuming that once I have another shelf, that the stacking order should be (top to bottom): NDX/SN2/HiCap DR/XPS DR?
Confirmation would be gratefully received!
Lovely looking system I too have a Hutter and three Naim boxes 282/300 and I do have an extra shelf between the two parts of the 300 that contains my Israeli PSU. My spacers are also longer than yours which does give the Burndies more room I suppose but looking at your set it does look perfect with the smaller spacers.
That is indeed my problem area [@mention:49154750588625888] - I have the Burndy looped to keep it off the floor at the moment. I like the compactness of the way it is visually right now, but am looking forward to the extra shelf to try and remedy the Burndy issue!
Would also like to know what rack this is, would fit nice in my room.

I guess that has to be a DIY rack based on Isoblue, only made from plywood by the looks of it. Nicely done, though.

It does look nice and well put together and goes well in the room. Lovely setup.

Thanks everybody! It is a custom made rack from plywood as you suggested, the cheeks made from maple. Once I´ll find the time I would like to try adding fraim-like ball bearings and glass, though I'm already really happy with the sound.
Did you make it yourself?
EBT posted:Did you make it yourself?
Together with a local product designer and a cabinatmaker I created those. We wanted to produce a small series of these, as I do not like the other designs that are available on the market - but sadly we don’t find the time to set up the production, now I‘m just enjoying the prototypes.
Before the fire goes in, is it too late to install a conduit beneath the hearth?
????GRAEMEH,...is it the speaker-cable you have in pressure between the "stone-plate" and the floor❓
In most time's, it's not the best if we talk soundquality to have cable's in that way.
Just an advice ????????.
/Peder ????
Peder, it’s times and cables, you don’t need the ‘ for a plural.
Hungryhalibut,....Thanks ????????????.My Swedenglish you know ????.
/Peder ????
Well, your English is far better than my Swedish, and I’m pleased you took my comment in the intended spirit - as helpful rather than critical.
