System Pics 2018

Welcome to System Pics 2018.

To start things off, here are a couple of pictures of my setup. There have been some big changes over the past year; a 300 and a 555PS, and some extra shelves to accommodate them.

Real Gallos:

There are also forummembers having Gallos, I call them to help me avoiding this tread being derailed ...

I’m not sure about the colour, I think they’d be better in Burgundy red. (I’ll get my coat.)

Gallos humour no less

New month, new school year, new speakers!

Just got a pair of used Dynaudio C1s at the right colour (Mocca), decent price and not (too) far from home (1.5 drive). So finally my system has jumped a level or two (from the previous Excite X36)!

Mocca

The improvement is so obvious, even my 3-year-old commented:

"The (new) speakers are good... soft (-->smooth)"

"All songs are better with the (new) speakers"

So I am at a very happy place at the moment. A couple of months ago I also upgraded my DacMagic to nDAC which also improved things considerably. Next step: DigiOne (Signature), once things have settled.

They’re interesting speakers - can anyone explain the reasoning behind the size and shape of the grilles - I’ve never seen any others like it ?

I do like your room - wish I could keep mine that tidy and it’s good to see you’ve made good use of the fireplace and not just ripped it out.

I think the diameters of the drivers is too big for the narrow cabinet and that's why they used a wider baffle & grilles in the front. This is more obvious on the bigger C2 and C4 speakers, if you look at the side view. Also the twitter is below the mid-range driver, which is a bit unusual. But in the end it sounds great and looks great to our eyes, which is all that matters.

I did the best I could do with the room as is (originally rented the apartment, now just bought it). The fireplace was already "decommissioned" when I entered the flat, so I tried to make the best use of it. Two powerstrips (a Musicline for Naim and a filtered one for the rest) as well as my modem/router are hidden in there, with the rest of the room looking as clean as it gets. Imaging and music quality probably gets a hit by the fireplace and the TV between the speakers, but that's the best we can do without a dedicated room. In any case, I can sacrifice a bit of quality for the nice moments with my family (you should see my 3-year-old dancing around or getting in audiophile mode and analysing the sound of the speakers!)

Very nice room and love your Robert Rauschenberg white paintings on the wall behind the speakers.

That is one of the coolest sentences I have read on the forum, ever.

Birthdays and Christmas could get quite expensive.

Nice suggestion! I will use that as an answer next time people ask me what they are. Far easier than explaining what a bass trap is...

As for my son, he is happy for now with police cars and dump trucks, but I'm sure his tastes will get more expensive with time!

Thank you all for your kind comments!

Do you have grills on your tweeters?

Posted on: 03 September 2018 by sihctr

The grills cover both the tweeters and the woofers. I suppose it would sound a bit better without them, but I don't dare to remove them, knowing what I did to my father's (arguably much cheaper) speakers many moons ago...

Enjoyed a few nice tunes on this combo whilst we were away recently.

Apologies for the lack of wine bottle on show...

My kid #3 ditched the tweeters trough the foam grills twice. Ultimately, I added steel grills on the tweeters. That worked.

In retrospect - yes, that might have worked too.

I prefer preservatives (for the dirty minds: on the tweeters).

It really looks a classy piece of kit, though as my dear wife pointed out the number of times I have mislaid and forgotten my glasses, it’s not going to be a goer for me. Best stick to me boxes, can,t mislay them.

Hope you enjoyed your trip, I Am sure the Sony will have helped.

Nice piece of kit. Who are the ear buds made by?

Cheers

Thanks HH. I guess a Walkman costing 2.5K, would need a decent pair of buds.

I found them incredibly uncomfortable when I tried them. I use 1more Triple Drivers with my A&K and they are really good and really comfy too.

Shure SE headphone range were designed as in-ear monitors for use on-stage. Fitting them properly requires some care and experience (with using in-ear monitors). Can be seen as uncomfortable when first used....
