System Pics 2018

Welcome to System Pics 2018.
To start things off, here are a couple of pictures of my setup. There have been some big changes over the past year; a 300 and a 555PS, and some extra shelves to accommodate them.
I just want to stick them in my ears without the need for training. They do sound good though. Maybe it’s my funny ears, being a flatfish.
In-ear monitors come in two basic forms: completely custom-made (e.g. made by Westone, UltimateEars, etc) and generic.
Shure SE range is of a generic nature. Given that ear canals are amazingly complex and differ a lot, I'm not surprised you found the generic headphones uncomfortable.
My drummer is happy with his Shure SE, but I need a custom-moulded ones to be comfortable when playing.
I find my Shure OK, it just took a little time to get them right to start with and find some tips that suited me. Essential for sound quality as well as comfort. I would say that getting it right is somewhat easier than sorting out the cable dressing behind your rack.
Naim has left the building and now a Pioneer NC50-DAB networkreceiver is doing the business. Not bad not bad at all.
An unorthodox move, Robiwan.
What brought that on?

My wife wants to know where you got your wallpaper ! I’d like to know how you managed take the photo of Ephesus library without hoards of people all over it ?
Nice room, equipment blends well despite being black boxes. Well done !

Apologies for the lack of wine bottle on show...
A great combo, I enjoying exactly the same combo. While I know I still can improve my listening experience by exchanging the Shures 846’s they still fit me like a glove.....

Yes i really like the 846's but i think they'll eventually get moved to work and travel duties with some full size phones taking their place for home use just to make the most of what the 1Z can do. It's a fantastic sounding combination as is though but i'm looking forward to exploring more with balanced cables and full size phones in the future.

Quite so!
Since you mentioned it, Robiwan, I had a quick look out of curiosity and the Pioneer unit may not play in the same playground as Naim gear, but it does look usefully full-featured. Maybe the kind of thing my parents might be able to enjoy.
Any thoughts on how it sounds?
Two weeks without a decent music system have finally come to an end!
Following a tough house move into a wreck of a project, I’ve managed to clear the cobwebs from a back bedroom and set up the Vinyl part of my system (A decent network system may have to await a rewiring of the house).
The room is Not an ideal acoustic environment, but it’s sounding pretty great to me

It’s been a long time since I heard them, but I do like the unique looks of the Shahinian Obelisks.
A second system for the office that is in progress of being assembled.
MBP -> Chord Mojo -> just acquired 1984 Nait 1 -> ProAc Tablette 10 Signatures
Nait 1 going to be sent in for servicing soon, but sounding quite nice as is.

Kevin, I think a Dyna P75 phono stage would really tie the room together.

I do like your room - wish I could keep mine that tidy and it’s good to see you’ve made good use of the fireplace and not just ripped it out.
Manufacturing fault, I suspect.

When you will change the shures with something worthy of Z1 you will hear what you have been missing I use them with Noble Encores, great combo... or full ones like hd800s, Utopia,Clear etc...

Oddly enough – productivity not a problem. The near field setup let's me both tap my toes while still staying incredibly productive (listened to 4 hours of Miles/Coltrane last night while cranking like hell). I'm a little sad I don't have the vinyl rig in the office so I'm not trying the little NAIT's MM input, but the Mojo is doing an admirable job as a source none the less.

Sound is balanced, spacious, solid, clear, with plenty of bite etc. Not as full as the SN so speakers must be placed closer to the back wall to compensate this. Yes PRAT is present also. But furthermore not any issue with Spotify like the ND5XS has which stops playing suddenly, very annoying, so it was the ND5XS and not my network. But that was not the main reason to sell my Naim set.

Funny you should say that because since not owning a Naim streamer I haven't suffered any drop outs either.

Yes, the TAD's are fantastic. One of the most 'tuneful' (can I say that ? ) speakers I've heard.
