System Pics 2018

Welcome to System Pics 2018.
To start things off, here are a couple of pictures of my setup. There have been some big changes over the past year; a 300 and a 555PS, and some extra shelves to accommodate them.
hungryhalibut posted:Nick, the system pics thread treads a fine line. As the thread starter for more years than I care to remember, my ‘vision’ is for a thread that has pictures and no discussion. But that’s never going to happen. I think it’s fine to make helpful suggestions and general comments, so long as they are positive, but not to trigger in depth discussion. That’s for a separate thread. The focus must always be on the pictures. And it’s always nice to get ‘that looks good’ responses from people, and hopefully well set up systems give people a few ideas for their own setups.
As for the 2019 thread, I tend to start it a few days before Christmas, about 21 December, to give the opportunity for few festive snaps, which are always nice. If anyone thinks they can do it better, they are very welcome to take over the reins.
Hey HH, as always you are doing a great job but let's face it - anyone can do it by posting up a new thread title! After all, it's not yours by default either!
So I respectfully suggest, do as you say - keep on topic. 'The focus must always on the pictures' - not diverting onto other subjects like where people live!
Geoff
You are quite right, of course.

BTW, I think I have the same tape deck in the attic!
Thank you. Not a bad system at the time and still quite decent today. It was quite fun listening to the sound of cassettes again after nearly a quarter of a century. Will have to start bringing them over to the UK bit by bit coz they're not being used back at my parents. I was surprised to see that the whole system fetches around £500 nowadays.
I suspect the boxes being located in the wall might have something to do with the presence of a “the wife”, something many posters on here have about the place, which seems to have a strange deleterious effect on correct system placement as soon as it is installed... ????????????

I actually think it's great to get away from the stereotypical picture of hi-fi enthusiasts with their racks and spaghetti-like cabling everywhere. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but usually what happens when friends or guests come round my place for the first time is my system will always draw comments. These are inevitably comparisons against cheaper one-box or streaming solutions or what they identify in their minds as being "top end hi-fi", which usually means something like B&O. Without fail, I find myself inadvertently in a defensive position to justify such ostentatiousness and why I'm such a luddite. This in turn leads to an informal demo because people want to hear why this so-called state of the art system is so good with the predictable comments that "I think my Sonos sounds just as good", "it sounds good but how can you justify spending that sort of money?" and "Christ Jon, are you having a mid-life crisis?"
Putting the whole shebang out of sight would put pay to all of that.
I think the orange focals look the best. If anything they've helped you achieve the title of the most heavily requoted post in this thread to date

Those Sopra's look great in your room. I had these on loan and they didn't look good in our room according to my wife. The future certainly wasn't Orange
Ultimately the sound wasn't for me but glad that you like them.
Wow, just wow! That orange looks amazing in that space, lovely system
No wonder they didn't sound right: orange and green rug. Helloooooo!
LOL. Black more your colour? Also had these on loan.
Kanta 3s?
They are Kanta 2's. I must admit they do look big from that angle.
Previous page,..number 48,and this page.
You guys really like to use the feature "quote".
You do not need to ”quote” 7-9 posts or more.
You get to "scroll" like crazy.
/Peder ????
Peder, you are right. It’s ridiculous and wholly unnecessary, especially when people quote something that is already long and then add about three new words.

HiFi is a minority hobby and as always been the case way back when you could get a Midi system from Comet!
All those boxes and "OMG, the wires!". "Why does it have so many wires?".
As a child I came from a home where everything was spotless and immaculately decorated (mostly to impress visitors it seemed). Washing your oily hands in the kitchen sink was a no-no, you had to use a bucket outside. It was all very tiresome really. My mother would have been horrified to see me painting an engine in the living room. I bought a wardrobe from Ikea just to store car parts and specialist tools in
Don't hide it all away, it's your hobby and you've worked for it. If other's think you are barmy, stuff 'em

Please don't go there, I survived the first time - barely - but not sure l want to revisit that experience.
I agree with HH that the 'Reply with Quote' function is over-used on the forum. I also think a pictures of your system thread which forbids comments would be good.
Wires. Did somebody mention wires?

Warning! an image - no text - below, including coiled wires:

I especially approve of the furry suit for listening, true attention to detail managing those pesky reflections from the human form.

If a tree plays a record in a room but doesn't listen - does the stylus still wear out?

I do, HH. I live in Walsden which, I suppose, is the posher end I come from Luton originally though! We've been here for three years now. If you're dropping by, do let me know and I'll make you a brew
