On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
I always find the treatment of Dave Grusin working very well. The highlight is the Westside story, but this one is also very enjoyable.....
Playing on Vinyl - Fabulous Mississippi Blues from Alvin Young Hart from 1996 - Saw him on Worthing Pier last night and he was superb.Great set and long stories between songs.

Listening to CD 2 of this double album and that flippin' pre amp is working its magic again. The live vibe of this recording is shining through and what a wonderful recording it is too. And that voice! The band behind Eva are brilliant too.
There are some tracks that are very dense and the venue sounds rather intimate. But the 552 keeps control beautifully with air around intruments and vocals even when the band and Eva are at full pelt. This is the kind of control when the mix is 'full on' that I have been searching for!
Wonderful stuff.
Nigel, very pleased to hear what the 552 is doing. Now my 252 is nearing its end game it has a very full and sweet/mellow sound, which makes for a lot of enjoyment. I do however suspect that backing instruments are less prominent than they could be. From what you say it sounds as though the 552 puts this right (your ref to air around instruments and vocals). Broadly speaking speaking I’d say this was the difference between the Aria and Aura, and it felt as though I could pinpoint where each instrument was in the room. Music was a very exciting with the Aura. My 252 went though a lifeless period in the summer.
Keep us posted with insights.

Norah Jones - Come Away with Me - CD
Melody Gardot - My One and Only Thrill - CD
Wonderful performances from both these talented ladies.
I’m hunting for music to go with my pilgrimage movie. Best so far is Cara Dillon Wanderer track10 (Dubhdara). Thoughts on subject of travel on foot and sea welcome.

A terrific Tull album, Bert. In my view this, Benefit, and Aqualung are their best. And unlike Tony2011, I think Mr Wilson's re-masters of these albums are very nice. But that might be because I'm comparing them to CD whereas I think he has rather lovely first pressings of vinyl.
