What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Thanks to Kevin W for bringing this James Guthrie remaster to my attention . One of my all time favourite albums always felt restrained and never seemed to improve with a better system . Well this arrived yesterday and sounds much better . I'm not sure how it was achieved but it sounds like a new recording . There's much more clarity , detail , dynamics , soundstage and separation . It'll definitely be higher on the playlist again . It has taken me straight back to when it was first released listening to a borrowed cassette on a Sony Walkman around the age of 10 , it was love at first listen .
Happy days .
Playing on Cassette on TDK AR C60 - Always love hearing this Floyd album before the big 4 of DSOTM - WYWH - Animals and the album above ![]()

Santana - Zebop!, a solid effort from the late '80s version.

John Mayer - "Heavier Things" (2003)
Playing on Compact Disc - Turning up the funk on happy hour in the office
:format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-697352-1312274382.jpeg.jpg)

John Mellancamp - "No Better Than This" (2010) simple production, great album
Gorillaz - The Now Now. 24-bit – 44.10 kHz download from HDTracks.
Finally got around to buying this on Monday and It's rather good. Focused and more of a piece than Humans, which never really held my attention over its entire length, despite some cracking tracks.
Still prefer the first three albums with Demon Days prob my fav depending on mood. But this is a return to form for Mr. A & Co. Worth checking out.

George Harrison - Extra Texture ( Read All About It ), still some good tracks amongst the not so good.

Time for one album before this evening's Champions League games and I've been meaning to play Animals again for some time. One of my favourite Floyd albums.
Nice Choice Mike.
Agree with you and Kevin on Animals.Dave Gilmours guitar break on Dogs is sublime one of my favourite Floyd moments.....will be watching The Champions in action with Lyon shortly.I know they will motivated to finish top of the group.Sane and Stirling at West Ham where a right handful.What I love about City this season is the midfield where not reliant on Aguero.
Cheers Ian

If it's a UK first pressing and in good nick, £20 is a very good price Phil.
I've just spent almost four hours (that's how long the concert was) listening to a recording of the Dead's famous show at Santa Barbara UC on May 20th, 1973. The last 80 minutes or so (set three) are stunning. This is '73 jamming Dead at their very best. Just wow!

If you want to hear some more stunning 1973 Grateful Dead.... check out the recently released Pacific Northwest Complete Recordings (1973-74)... 6 shows... 3 from 1973 / 3 from 1974... I personally prefer the 1973 sound... a little looser. I'm not sure if all the shows are available on Tidal, but for sure the 3 CD sampler is... will give you a little taste.
Is this the greatest album of all time? It may well be. Huge, sprawling, chaotic, brilliant, eclectic, baffling, bizarre... the Beatles' talent and skill is just mindblowing. The production is masterful, the sequencing brilliant. Giles Martin's 2018 stereo mix is rather fine (although I still prefer his Dad's 1968 mono production). I'm listening to it in 24/96, on the Blu-ray. As I always do when I listen tio The White Album, I'm playing it from beginning to end.
You can't dip into this, it has to be eaten whole. Nothing must be skipped or left out. Seriously, how can anyone suggest slimming this down?

"Moving Pictures" - Rush (CD)
These are still amongst my least favourite Rush albums, but they're still pretty good.
(ducks, runs for cover...
)
I’m a great Rush fan, but agree that Moving Pictures, whilst good, is not their best offering. I personally prefer 2112, Roll The Bones and Clockwork Angels. Each to their own, eh?

Bruce Springteen - Human Touch.

(Unfortunately) Melody was wearing a black and oversized trouser suit. The concert was sublime though. Will post some more thoughts in the '2018 Concerts' thread.
