What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
The album has some interesting takes on well known classics, while it sometimes also gives you a bit the feeling of a circus act. The specific shown song goes so nicely deep down on the ND555, that wouldn’t have happened on my NDS...
Musically as always very interesting, sound quality is rather poor though...
Ocean Colour Scene - Mechanical Wonder
Chirpy choons for chipper times.
So switched to this one which also has a good sound quality...
Christopher M,
Saw Ocean Colour Scene at Hammersmith a decade or so ago. They were great, full of energy. Must put some on after the rugby!

Streaming via Tidal.
Spotted a vinyl copy in a local charity shop yesterday for 50p, will buy it Monday.
Hi TK - have you checked out the Girl From Chickasaw County: The Complete Capitol Masters box set? It's an absolute stunner!
Hi Kevin,
Thanks to your good self is how I came to listen to Bobbie in the first place via this thread.
Via Tidal I have been working my way through the GFCC on and off. My daughter keeps asking me for my Christmas list and I am very tempted to start it with this one.
I guess the vinyl for 50p is a no brainer provided it's not knackered.
On a side note I'm currently giving Silver Spoon a try now.
Keep up the good work!
Mike
switching gears ...
2012, hybrid sacd
Joseph Haydn - Flute Quartets No. 1-4 - vinyl
Bought this in early summer for £1, but didn’t get round to cleaning it. It sounds very exciting with the interplay between flute and violin, viola and cello.
Haydn along with Mozart used to be warmers up at the Usher Hall Edinburgh winter season concerts when I went in the late sixties.

Classic electro from 1981, way, way ahead of its time. By '81/82 YMO were beginning to overtake Kraftwerk as the innovators in electronic music. This is the 1992 Reastless CD master (still by far the best digital versions of the YMO catalogue).
I love how they list all their equipment they used to make the album, along with the cost of purchase, on the back of the sleeve - 138 bits of kit in all, worth 51.25 million yen - about £2.5 million in today's money (by my very rough calculations).
Jackie McLean - Destination out
- Alto Saxophone, Liner Notes – Jackie McLean
- Bass – Larry Ridley
- Drums – Roy Haynes
- Trombone – Grachan Moncur III
- Vibraphone [Vibes] – Bobby Hutcherson
another great Philips recording...listening to the remastered CD.
Stanley Turrentine - Look Out!

Saw them in 2008 at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the Massive Attack Meltdown. They were great, with Christian Fennesz as part of the backing group. Though this was one of those odd occasions when the double live CD (YMO London) improves on the live experience, as the only fly in the ointment on the night was that the Sound Engineer gradually increased the volume until it was distorting - fixed in the recording.
P.S. Sakamoto is a god.
