What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Playing on Vinyl on Delmark Records 1967 - Lovely Blues from Magic Sam
Marc van Roon trio - Quantum stories
Good modern jazz. Lots of free improvisations which works out nice.
Marc van Roon piano, Clemens van der Feen bass, Martijn Vink drums
More YMO, from the 1992 series of masters. This groundbreaking and rather dark album from 1982 is my favourite of theirs.
(1980)
Flesh And Blood
Hard to believe this fine old Roxy banger is coming approaching forty, those years seem to have passed by bloody fast!
Triple vinyl 2017 Remastered Version - Stage, was David Bowie's second live double album, documenting his supporting tour for Heroes. Supported by a band that featured guitarists Adrian Belew and Carlos Alomar, Bowie doesn't recast his earlier work in a new light - the songs from Ziggy Stardust essentially remain the same, as do the selections from Station to Station - but they are infused with a new avant-garde spirit that comes to the forefront during the songs from Low and Heroes. A fine listen. ????
Karl Bohm - Schubert Symphonies 5 and 8 (Unfinished) - vinyl
Last of my 4 LP bought months ago. The 8th is a massively powerful work that seizes your attention after the gentler 5th.
Earlier I also play Arnold Schoenberg’s string quartet in D minor conducted by Rafael Kubelik. The sleeve notes are a wonder of music critique requiring a music degree to understand! By 1905 when Schoenberg wrote this work he had worked out how to combine diverse themes - unity in diversity. A ground breaking work.

Really liking this. Track 7 - Lost & Found. Wow!
Bill Evans - The Sesjun radio shows
Father John Misty - God's Favorite Customer
2018, cd

Avalon
Time for one more fine Roxy album which always takes me back to the drive down to an extended three month stay in the sarf de France in '82, it was hell but someone had to fly the flag...
Playing on Vinyl - Live Klaus Schulze
I remember first hearing this sometime in 1980. Absolutely blew me away. Never heard anything like it (I hadn't heard any Japanese music at that point, unless one counts Tomita's Snowflakes Are Dancing). Still sounds good today, especially on this decent Restless 1992 master.
Dan Steel posted:Vinyl reissue originally released 1964 - Excellent album to start a very wet Liverpool day off. ????
Bill Evans - Piano
Chuck Israels - Bass
Paul Motian - Drums
Just (re)played this- thanks Dan. The first Bill Evans album I ever bought, in, I think, 1965 and an album I know by heart.
I'm going to follow the Roxy theme with this beauty for the start of my evening listening session.
Just been to the storage unit to get some Christmas decorations etc and grabbed a few LPs while I was there.
I've not played this brilliant album for years:
The first side has some real gems. The 5th track of side 1 'Nothing ever goes to plan' reminds me of Donald Fagen's The Nightfly for some reason.
I'm really impressed by how good this sounds via the Nova's digitised analogue input, output via a NAP 250.
Triple vinyl released 2015 - Great live album set. 8)
Giving the new 6xLP Jimi Hendrix Experience vinyl boxset
[that only arrived here yesterday]
a jolly good blasting tonight : )
Eric Vloeimans - Fugimundi (live at Yoshi's)
Another good example of some fine modern jazz. If you like the music of Kenny Wheeler, you might also like this one.
Eric Vloeimans: trumpet | Harmen Fraanje: piano |
Anton Goudsmit: guitar
(2010)
Phosphene Dream
The Black Angels, one of my favourite retro sounding psyche rock bands.
Chicago staring Roxy Hart - DVD
Mike, my bit of Roxy Music tonight. Better than the movies sound wise, and what about the dancing.
Phil
The acme of stoner rock, and its Big Bang too. On lovely splattered vinyl from the splendid Ten Year War box set.
Vinyl released 1977 - Released after a three year break following Veedon Fleece and great album it is. ????
Jeff Buckley Sketches for my Sweetheart the Drunk, incredibly dynamic sounding album and helping to run in my new A7’s, check out the above track and turn it up to 11! Streaming on Tidal.
Kate Bush - The Sensual World - CD
Seems to be Kate Bush week. What an amazing voice she has. Love This Woman’s Work.

Listening a bit more after the concert...
