On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Listened to this in the car...
Tomasz Stanko Quintet - Dark Eyes
Can't switch off after the game this afternoon, and this lot from my Naims aren't helping!
A prelude to a Boccherini concert tomorrow at Northwestern University:
Having just typed the word madman into another thread on here, it triggered a memory that soon landed on The Prophet's Song from A Night At The Opera. It soars; the climax from around 5m 30s to the end is superb and transported me straight back to 1975, which is no bad thing. Now playing the whole album. Haven’t heard it in eons. Superb.
Glenn Gould - Bach: toccatas vol. 1
Earlier “Aerial Ballet” released 1968
Now “Sandman” released 1976
kicking of with a touch of Harry from the excellent RCA albums collection. ????
Francesco Cafiso - New York Lullaby
Nice post bop jazz. Francesco Cafiso was only 16 years old when he recorded this album in 2006.
- Alto Saxophone – Francesco Cafiso
- Bass – David Williams (2)
- Drums – Joe Farnsworth
- Piano – David Hazeltine
Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life
Prompted by watching a programme last night on BBC iplayer.
Vinyl released 1987 - The Smiths fourth and final studio album and a great one. ????
A nice start on piano for Sunday..
Continuing with some fine Mozart...
Rolf Lislevand before sunrise:
The White Buffalo - Darkest Darks, Lightest Lights
If Country Rock is your bag then I would urge you to give this a try in particular the track Avalon.
I saw them in Bristol earlier this year and they were excellent, sadly the venue was not.
Ella Fitzgerald & Joe Pass - Fitzgerald & Pass Again - Analogue Productions reissue of 1976 Pablo Records release
Something nice and mellow before the big derby.
Recorded January 29th, 30th & February 8th, 1976 RCA Los Angeles.
Acoustic Sounds and RTI have acquired the spectacular Wilson Audio Custom Tube Mastering facility. The equipment has been installed at RTI in California with Bruce Leek and Stan Ricker, mastering. Analogue Productions Revival Series were the first LPs mastered with this incredible system. The beauty of having the mastering facility in the same location as the pressing plant is the lacquer can be pressed immediately. This eliminates degradation in the lacquer. RTI has state of the art pre-plating equipment and produces the best pressings in the world.

On CD:
The Don Ellis Orchestra - Electric Bath
A very interesting album, which crosses boundaries. Some very interesting time signatures too. It's not an album I listen to that frequently, but I would recommend it.
On CD:
Russell Malone - Black Butterfly, guitar
It's all rooted in the blues but "Shades" goes in several directions with nary a misstep, naturally integrating superstar guests like Clapton and Norah Jones, and achieving a steady flow no matter the style.
