What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Bert Schurink posted:Great music, should have explored it much earlier. I Ike the early Genesis more than the later more poppy Genesis...
10/10, Bert. You've passed the Genesis initiation test! It all went downhill when Steve Hackett left.
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Visions of the Emerald Beyond
Beautifully recorded albeit my copy is a bit noisy, this is still one of my favourite Bruch's Violin Concerto.

Wrong! It went downhill when Gabriel left. It just took another couple of albums for Hackett to realise they had long been doomed!
Vinyl - Recorded in 1966

I am listening to it at the moment, I enjoy 'Sorni Nai' most. There is a similar haunting thread runs through his music, which in the right mood, I really enjoy.
What are your own thoughts?
I haven't bought it yet al93125 but your comment that it has a haunting thread like (the excellent) Sorni Nai has persuaded me to download it. I'll post my thoughts later. Thanks.
Steve

Maybe true, but that would be to exclude Trick, which was a fine album IMHO.
Playing on Cassette on TDK SA C60 - Fine Rhythm and Blues from Buddy Guy from 1982
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Inner Worlds
This was the last Mahavishnu Orchestra album I bought. It marked such a significant change towards a much more funky sound. There were a couple of MO titles released since this album, but not for me.
However, the absolute highlight of this album for me is the exceptionally beautiful 'Lotus Feet', which is also included on some Shakti albums, but the version recorded here is perfect to my ears.
Playing on Compact Disc - Great Lucky Peterson round up album
Bert Schurink posted:Continued in the area of jazz vocal, I have to hear her more, some interesting stuff but not totally convincing...
Any further thoughts on this one I was thinking of trying one of her albums & Qobuz have an offer at the moment on her live one ?
What a fine record this is. I was a bit dubious when I first heard it, maybe because I was expecting such an emphasis on 80s style synths, but it’s just excellent.

I know where you guys are coming from, and agree that Genesis could no longer qualify as a prog. rock band after Hackett’s departure. Where I differ from you is that, in my opinion, they continued to produce a lot of very listenable music, just of a different variety. Duke and Abacab get played on my system quite regularly. Not as often as TLLDOB and Foxtrot admittedly, but that doesn’t make them bad albums.
Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker - CD and Doobie Brothers - Excitement
Heartbreaker was a favourite even before speaker tweaks etc, meaning it sounded good, but gosh it is even better now, so intimate, warm, exciting sound effects and beautiful sounding.
I also played
Doobie Brothers - Excitement - CD
which before was barely up to the promise of the title, by now is and shows off their talents.

Let’s have a ball and a biscuit.

She has a kind of different style than usual, but you would need to check for yourself if that’s your style or not... I wasn’t 100 percent convinced, so will leave it for now ....

Early Genesis music makes heavy demands on your HiFi and it’s setup. Well that was my experience, happily now resolved.
Bert, I’m sure it’s an amazing experience on your ND555.
Phil
It sounds indeed excellent on my setup...
Queen - A Night at the Opera
I've been playing this quite a lot since seeing the film recently (I must go and see it again). Every time I hear it I find myself amazed just how creative it was. There are so many fine tracks on this album.
Now Playing.........
Jan Garbarek - Twelve Moons
Jan Garbarek (soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone, synthesizer), Rainer Brüninghaus (piano, synthesizer), Eberhard Weber (bass), Manu Katché (drums), Marilyn Mazur (percussion), Agnes Buen Garnås (vocals) and Mari Boine Persen (vocals).
Streaming on NAS........ Kicking off Monday morning with Jan's Twelve Moons album, great music and vocals, magnificent way to start the day!
Playing on Compact Disc - Great Souther Rock from The kings of Leon
Recorded March 23rd, 1967 in Walthamstow. There’s also an excellent version of the Violin Concerto from November 21st, 1984 with Zukerman.
A nice album, seen from the best jazz albums thread...
Now again another album from the better period of Genesis...
Playing on Cassette on Maxell UL -S C60 - Great debut from New York's Television from 1977 - Great songs and guitar workouts from Tom Verlaine
