On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Steely Dan - Old Regime - CD
My first experience of Steely Dan based on the regard I know members have for this band. I bought it from Oxfam yesterday for £2.99. According to Discogs it can cost £6.99 on their market!
Sounding might fine with the 555PS I’m demoing at the moment.
They also had the Steely Dan featuring walter becker & donald fagen CD. Wasn’t sure whether to buy this one as I had t seen it here before. Should I get it?

It sounds like a compilation like the one you have, not a bad place to start with the Dan. But look out for Aja, Gaucho, RoyalScam, can,t buy a thrill and pretzels logic as classic Dan albums....enjoy.
JamieWednesday posted:Slightly irrating the tracks are from a number of performances rather than a single concert but still very nice!
In more ways than one......

Agreed, a good intro to the Dan if the listing I saw on discogs is right, I'd add Katy Lied to Gazza's list.

Don’t forget their best one - Countdown to Ecstacy.
Sorry knew I as missing one.....they were just off the top of my head, should have looked them up in the files. One of my favourite bands....could be a Dan day as it’s pouring with rain outside.
Raining in Essex? It’s glorious sunshine here, perfect for...
Archie Shepp, On Green Dolphin Street.
All Shepp's Denon albums are with seeking out.

Melody Gardot - Live in Europe
Maybe The Man's best album. Probably.
Bill Evans - Waltz for Debby
Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker CD
This was just £0.99 from Oxfam. I really like the husky voice he uses, and the guitar accompaniment and harmonica just add to the aura he creates. I don’t remember the husky voice on ‘1989’. Perhaps he is doing his version of Bob Dylan. I like it.

Arthur Rubinstein - The Chopin ballades & scherzos
Home: Kian Soltani (cello) | Aaron Pilson (piano)
Schubert | Schumann | Vali
The album consists of six of Vivaldi's nine cello sonatas with continuo, RVs 43, 46, 44, 40, 42, and 39, respectively. None of these sonatas want for recorded performances, but Cocset's among the most beautiful to be had at present. Cocset understands these pieces well, and skillfully projects their sense of separateness and variety.

Just Finishing........
Salt House - Lay Your Dark Low
Streamed on TIDAL....... Enjoyed their "Undersong" album yesterday and wanted to give Salt House another listen, enjoy the music quite a bit.
Now Playing.......
Chely Wright - I Am The Rain
Streaming on TIDAL....... Fantastic voice and love the first track, "Inside," Chely can certainly light up any time of the day when playing one of her albums.
Jordi Savall - Bach: brandenburg concertos
Allmusic.com:
As one of the major early music groups founded by virtuoso gambist and conductor Jordi Savall, Le Concert des Nations has served effectively as his orchestra since 1989 in repertoire ranging from the 17th to the 19th century, covering music of the Baroque and Classical periods on original instruments. This set of J.S. Bach's six Brandenburg Concertos has the recognizable stamp of Savall and his expert musicians on it, in the energetic pacing, stylish ornamentation, radiant instrumental colors, and the authentic character of the music, which is faithfully conveyed through lively ensemble playing. Whether it's a rugged, boisterous sound, which is frequently the tone of Bach's allegros, or a refined, courtly interpretation, as in the affecting slow movements, Savall and his ensemble make the music feel fully alive, spontaneous, and generously expressive, and at no point do the concertos feel like academic exercises or museum pieces. Savall and Le Concert originally released these performances of the Brandenburgs on the Astree label in 1991, but these hybrid SACDs on Savall's own Alia Vox label make the concertos sound better than ever, with discrete placement of parts in the multichannel recording and incredibly lifelike sound, which focuses on the finest details. Highly recommended.

Melody Gardot - Live in Europe
Slightly disappointing on the first listen and not quite the live album i was expecting. Her studio albums set such a high bar. It'll be a grower i'm sure, but i miss the intimacy and the way the studio recordings capture her voice.

Mmmmm might hold off on this one then. I thought it was a sure thing.

Franz Ferdinand: Always Ascending - 24-bit – 96.00 kHz. I’ve been looking forward to this release ever since I preordered and it hasn’t disappointed. Three plays so far today and to me its evidence of a creatively ambitious group having reinvigorated their mojo! Its a slight change of direction with an electro-disco influence finding its way into the bombastic glam-art-rock of their past glories, but still a distinct FF album. Early days of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if "Always Ascending" ends up on my best of 2018 list. Recommended - its great fun.
1971 vinyl reissue of the classic 1967 album

Having finished the whole album, side 2 is much more like it. Don't hold off.

James - I haven't got this new album yet, and suspect I've already got much of the material, but if you felt the live recordings on this had 'less' than her studio recordings I can heartily recommend this Blueray of her performance in Paris. It lacks nothing compared to the studio albums I have and captures too what I remember of seeing her live at the RFH. Of course it's best appreciated with a good quality home theatre system. Mike
