On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
dave marshall posted:Ian Siegal - All The Rage.
I posted this a few days back, and now I've found the time for a proper listen, and this is an absolute belter from Ian, who is arguably
the finest blues singer / guitarist in the UK today.
As I mentioned, Nugene Records currently have a sale on, until the 10th., and this is available at less than five squid, with some of
Ian's other albums at even less ............. so get yersel ower there, an' bag sum bargins, ken.
Fantastic bargains, great shout! Many thanks.
REM - Life's Rich Pageant
Why? to hear the sublime Fall on me and Cuyahoga. Oh, and to road test my new cartridge.

Hi Chris,
It's a superb album.I love the urgency of Begin the begin and These Days.Cuyahoga is brilliant and always find it quite sad with the lyric "Take a picture here, take a souvenir".With regard to the Indian reservation. Mike Mills backing vocals on that track are pure REM.He also sings lead vocals on Superman.I was lucky to see them on that tour at Hammersmith Odeon their only UK date back in 1987 and still ranks in my top 10 gigs and come to think of it's one of my favourite REM albums, there all great the IRS Record years though.
BTW whats the new cartridge ?
Cheers Ian
Playing on Compact Disc - Fine blues from Lucky Lopez Evans
Joe Bonamassa - An Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House.
Joe and chums do an acoustic concert featuring many of his better known choons.
For an acoustic set, this has so much drive and rhythm, and is one of the best recorded live sets I've ever heard.
All fans of Joe will no doubt already be very familiar with this double live album, but for anyone else, it's there on Tidal, so,
get yourself gone ........... I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Thanks Ian, Sounds like one of those gigs of a lifetime. I am now going to start referring to the IRS years btw. Great band, I've seen them once at the Rose Bowl in Hampshire, perhaps in about 2014, when I was working on a local paper. It was when Michael Stipe had that blue stripe painted across his eyes. Brilliant, and astonishingly loud even in the pit where the lensmen worked.
I've splashed on an Audio Technica mc, please see the Corner.
Now playing George Benson - In Flight for the tight, funky rhythms. Chugging nicely.
Best, C.
Scott in more mellow mood, from an early 1990s CD:
On CD:-
Kate Bush - 50 Words For Snow
On CD:-
The Good The Bad & The Queen - Merrie Land
Calexico / Iron and Wine - In the Reins. A wonderful collaboration from 2006 between these two artists. I am listening to a Japanese issue which has some extra tracks, including covers of the Stone's Wild Horses and the Velvet Underground's All Tomorrow's Parties.
Burkard Schliessmann - Bach
He plays the second partita a bit to slow for my taste. But I like the way he plays the Fantasias and Fugues.
Playing on Vinyl on Shanachie Records - Great Bunny Wailer compilation album
.......this one ........
It's that man again! Another 1990s CD.
Billy Gibbons - The Big Bad Blues.
I chose this as one of my favourites over on Tony's "Best of 2018" topic, .................. so why not?
The Reverend get back to his blues roots and brings his inimitable style to this collection of classic blues choons ............ erm, LOUD!!!
Bill Evans - Montreux III
Bill Evans - piano ; Eddie Gomez - Bass
Bob Marley and the Wailers - Natural Mystic.
"Where Legend concentrated on singles, its sequel, Natural Mystic:The Legend Lives On, is a collection of album tracks."
As the review says, this takes you past the big hit singles, and is a fine selection of album choons.
Tabby Cat, upthread, prompts me to play this, surely one of the best in the genre.
Powerhouse - In an Ambient Way
Bill Evans - At the Montreux jazz festival
- Bass – Eddie Gomez
- Drums – Jack DeJohnette
- Piano – Bill Evans
Richard Hawley - Late Night Final. I love the cover photograph from this album. The music's not too shabby either.
Bruce Springsteen
Songs of the Road - Qobuz Studio
Edward
Time for some feisty femininity from the Antipodes. Original UK vinyl pressing.
