Ketil Bjornstad - The Light
Ketil Bjørnstad (piano), Randi Stene (mezzo-soprano) and Lars Anders Tomter (viola).
Streaming on NAS.............. continuing on with the beautiful voice of Randi and accompanying music of Ketil and Lars, a wonderful album sounding mighty sweet this Sunday morning!
This is a fabulous album, like you I love Randi Sterne’s voice and the sensitive backing. Ketil Bjornstad seems to get some wonderful singers for his albums, I also love Annelli Drecker on Grace, and Kristin Asbjornsen on Seafarer’s Song, two other superb albums by the same artist.
Vinyl released 1984 - Excellent second studio album. ????
Jim Hall & Bob Brookmeyer - Live at the NSJ
Very good small scale jazz.
- Jim Hall - Guitar
- Bob Brookmeyer - Trombone
Playing on Vinyl - Tangerine Dream Dream from 1980 - The boys are really on form with Tangram set 1 and 2
I think the Arctic Monkeys have developed in some interesting ways since their debut some years ago. Their latest, Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino, is a bit of departure from their guitar-led previous albums with more emphasis on keyboards. On a first listen today, I like it a lot.

Great live band too Alex is a very talented individual who continues to try different things.

A Trick Of The Tail (1994 definitive edition remaster)
With the decorations just finished and being reasonably up to date with all things required for the crazy season I've a drink in hand toasting an old favourite album that holds great memories of some wonderful months down in the Sarf de Spain at and around that time.
Clean Bandit - What is Love?
First play via Tidal.
Some Diana Krall for early Sunday evening. I should play this more often.
EP.
Steve Wonder - Talking Book
I love this album and have listened to it hundreds of times. I have even invested in the 24/192 hi res version, which I have just listened to for the first time with my 552. Well this was a bit of an OMG experience!
I thought I knew this album inside out. Appears not. These apparently simple songs are pushed along with rather complex arrangements of multi-layered instruments playing intricate melodies with Stevie's wonderful voice expertly weaving through and holding it all together. From deep, deep grumbling bass lines (some of which I had never 'heard' before) to the crystal clear zing of cymbals is a glorious experience to behold, which I have only truly heard for the first time today.
I have a small collection of high res material and some of it is somewhat disappointing. Not this one. It is quite astonishing that such an old recording can sound so wonderful. The complexity and intricacy of these superb songs is simply laid bare. On some tracks Stevie's vocals have been muti-tracked, so you have a couple of lead Stevies and a couple of backing Stevies. I never noticed that before. There is a risk that the sheer complexity could sound messy. It does not. It all makes sense, some parts, for the first time for me, and hangs together beautifully. And there are a couple of simple tracks, with Stevie and a couple of instruments. Wow, just stunning.
I have always loved Stevie Wonder's music and have a high regard for the man and his music. My respect for this genius has just reached new heights.
This is where the 552 works its magic for me. Making sense of complexity. Just stunning.

Gary Numan - Savage
I was a latecomer to this one which was my loss it's a cracking album.
Just finished...........
Cowboy Junkies - The Caution Horses
Streamed on NAS........... currently my favorite album by the Cowboy Junkies, some fantastic tracks, great voice, lyrics and music! Love it, one sweet album!
Now Playing........
Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker
Streaming on NAS........ enjoying some of Leonard's songs on this cold, overcast and wet Sunday morning. Working quite well and sounding mighty fine!
Disc 2 from this excellent set. ????
I needed another dose of Ms Krall...
Harry Manx - Wise Or Otherwise
Where West meets East, Harry sounding wonderful on this one. What a clever and interesting musician Harry is, as happy playing slide acoustic guitar or banjo as he is playing the Mohan Veena (a tricky Indian stringed instrument like a small Sitar). The man can sing too.
What a talent!
Kenny Burrell - Prestige 7088
Vinyl. Sunday evening in the chill zone.
Now Playing.........
Natalie Merchant - Live in Concert - New York City June 13, 1999
Streaming on NAS............ hitting the noon time hour and taking Natalie out for a spin and she is sounding mighty sweet!

Sweet, listening to Lulu about the film star Louise Brooks by Natalie.

Mantras For Madmen
And there was me walking the puppy wondering what to play when we got back home, spotted Nigel's posting and was sorted with the fine Harry Manx and his wonderful, beautifully played mohan veena.
William Bell - This Is Where I Live
Aaahhhhh.....the lovely, velvety voice of William Bell. Soul don't come much better than this IMHO.
