(1970)

Just some more good ol' boys stuff coming up for the half-century.

  Fink - Distance and Time.

A wee bit of late afternoon Fink, and why not?

Not a bad track on this album, and, if you get the chance to see Fin and the band, don't hesitate as they're excellent live.

Muddy Waters - Rollin' Stone

A feelgood compilation of a blues life. Just coming to the end of side 2. Going back to side 1, track 2, for Rollin' and Tumblin' straight after. Might play Dylan's version later.

Federico Aubele - Gran Hotel Buenos Aires.

Argentinian Dub, anyone?   Completely bonkers, but an unexpectedly good listen.

Though this album isn't available, there's some of his other stuff on Tidal, ................. so why not have a go?

King Ernest - Blues Got Soul.

While exploring some of Magic Slim's later stuff (you can get have too much of a good thing), I had a listen to this and it is rather good.

As Richard Morris pointed out, there is a massive typo on the album cover as this bloke is called King Ernest, or maybe he is playing games. Whatever's his name, he can sing the blues with soul and has a great voice.

Update: I have just read on a Tidal that his full stage name is King "Ernest" Baker and tragically he just heard the final mixes of this album and a few days later he was killed in a car accident!

Eric Clapton - Backless

Wine bar blues. And none the worse for it imo

Don Henley - The End of the Innocence

Just because it's a great album to play every now and again, Henley's voice, lyrics and solo music have always hit the spot with me.

I hesitated about buying the new double album but am now very much enjoying it.  The live versions of songs I'm familiar with from her studio albums seem very atmospheric on this and the improvisation is nice too. I can thoroughly recommend it.

Jolly fine album, Steve. I recall I was working in the States just after this was released and I reckon every rock FM radio station was playing it. I bought it there to bring home with me.

Massive Attack v Mad Professor - No Protection.

Argentinian Dub is all very well, ^ , but ye cannae beat the real deal, ken?

The Mad Professor dissects and re-assembles Massive Attack's "Protection" album .......... bonkers, but awfully good.

A cracking good album from Steve Hillage at Madison Square Garden in 1977. This includes a rather wonderful additional track with Wiliam Shatner (Capt. James T. Kirk) performing Rocket Man.

Rolling Stones: Some Girls - 16-bit CD Rip.

Finishing off this half day of Stones action with this 1970’s eclectic melting pot. Certainly not their best disc, but still interesting as they absorb the disco influence of the time. I bought it just for “Miss You” and that track still remains one of my all time favs.

Family - Family Entertainment

Some great early Family and the inimitable Roger Chapman to snap myself away the other side of the pond's music.

This is your fault, Steve! Great songs indeed. Happy memories.

Menahem Pressler - Mozart PIano Concertos 23 & 27; WAV CD rip

1st play of a new arrival after seeing an enthusiastic review from T38.45 a few days ago. Live recordings of the 2 Mozarts and some shorter Romantic pieces, very good SQ, the piano sounds lovely and resonant. Fine performances by Pressler, dragging me deep into the music, well supported by the orchestra. I can certainly see why T38.45 was so enthusiastic, excellent CD.

Chamber progressive rock duo from Russia. Sounds like a mix of many styles but music is great and vocal is very emotional.

Recorded with guests Gavin Harrison and Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree) and Mariusz Duda (Riverside, Lunatic Soul).

Very good album. From Bandcamp.

Beaux Arts Trio Beethoven Triple Concerto and Archduke Trio, WAV CD rip.

More Menahem Pressler, this time in his more accustomed role in the Beaux Arts Trio. First with the LPO in the Triple Concerto, I love the way that the trio’s knowledge of each other makes them feel so well integrated with each other as they front the orchestra. Then a lovely Archduke, very good sound quality from a ripped disc from the excellent value Philips at 50 original jackets box set.

Couldn’t agree more, I saw Don live in Glasgow a couple of years ago and he was superb, I play all of Don’s albums on a regular basis.

Fabulous album from Malia,

and although recorded in 2002 some 12 years before the arrival of the album Convergence with Boris Blank, Yellow Daffodils has a certain degree of Yello funk and feel about it, IMO : )
