On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.

Last year's thread can be found here:

Thanks Dave  likewise, I’ve just been looking on Discogs and the pickings are slim and as you say, tricky to confirm legitimacy. Also checked out CDJapan too earlier - may drop them a direct line and see what they say via email. Fingers crosse Eoink will pop by at some point.

Thanks again guys

Yeti, I don't wish to further complicate your choices but I probably should not have used the term 'marginal gains' if you take that to mean only 'slight' gains, I should have perhaps said something like appreciable/noticeable gains. All I can say is if it was to be my choice (now) between the 24/96 and the SHMCDs it would be the SHMs every time, every day. I'm sure the forum could point you in the right direction as to where you can acquire a kosher  SHM box if you choose that route.

Ah, thanks for the correction Steve, I did misinterpret it as 'slight gains'. So there is worthwhile noticeable difference with these SMH discs over the HD downloads, its just locating a set! OK, I’ll have a think and a google. Thanks again.

I checked on CDJapan, but the neither the boxset or individual SHM CD's are currently available.

At the time I got mine, there was some suggestion that the boxset was limited to an edition of 1000, so it seems that pre-owned might be the only option. DisCogs have a couple, but I've no way of knowing if they're the genuine article or not.

Eionk of this parish picked one up a few days ago, so maybe he can help.

I found one in shrink wrap with one of the reputable sellers on the river, still a risk, but now I have it the quality of printing of the covers and the SQ makes me sure it was kosher. There were a couple of other ones on the river from other sellers.

Perfect timing - thanks Eoink! OK, I'll have  look on Ariver tonight and see what I can find. CDJapan may well be able to help too. Will see.

There has been quite a lot of discussion about this set in the past couple of weeks. I see in the "Last CD You Bought" thread, Eoink has joined the ranks of the faithful.

Ever since I acquired this fantastic Japanese box six years ago, I've never ceased to be amazed at just how good these CDs sound (and of course, the mini-LP packaging, and general attention to detail, are second to none).

I'm playing the first album and, like every other disc in this box, it sounds bloody fantasic - lovely pin-sharp detail, great bass, real whallop, no glassiness or brittleness... why this should be, nobody seems to be able to explain; as far as anyone knows these are taken from the early 90s Page masters. But they sound way better than bog standard releases of those, or the Barry Diament and latterday JP re-remasters. Best sounding Zep CDs out there, as I'm sure other devotees who have this box will agree.

I agree 100%, Kevin.

Earlier in the week when the LZ theme was going strong I just about managed to contain myself from giving them a blast but I don't want to hold out any longer.

Brilliant, Tony. I really enjoyed that.

My first listen to both this album and artist.  Oh my! An updated Mary Black from her early work.  I am very much liking this!

You are welcome.

I try to post (and occasionally re-post) the stuff I really like and think others on here will like too. That is why I would encourage all who post here to say a few words about the albums they post so the reader can try to 'narrow down' the stuff believed to be worth sampling. Also without some words from the poster, albums that could be appreciated by others 'slip through the net'.

I have several Cara Dillon albums and there isn't a duff one among them although I feel Wanderer is up there with her best. If you have Tidal it is well worth exploring her work.

Still with the LZ love-in. Another Japanese CD. NQ and TSRTS sound incredible:

I agree with your wider point, Nigel. I shall also be exploring more of Cara's albums.

Sadly I’m 200 miles from my systems visiting my mum (she’s recovering from a broken hip), otherwise I’d join you in a synchronised Zepfest with great pleasure.

Is it a coincidence that after several of the forum members started to play sets of SHM Zep CDs loud, an earthquake was reported in England?

Good to see Cara Dillon getting some appreciation on here at last

With that in mind, i'm having a listen to my favourite Cara Dillon album.

Recorded when he was 87 years old. Brilliant album of Jay's jazz/swing style blues.

All the chat regarding the Zeppellin SHM CDs had me reaching for the few albums I have in that format. So spent the day playing Rubber Soul , The White Album  Abbey Rd and I Still Do by Eric Clapton.I agree these discs sound superior to the normal cds and if buying a newly released album often have the bonus of Japan only exclusive extra tracks so its a win win
