  The Cult - Love.

On what has been a beautiful sunshiny, snow covered day, in North Yorks., playing another from the archives.

Never tire of listening to this 80's classic.

Saw them in Leeds a couple of years ago, and, boy, were they LOUD. .................... so, erm, LOUD, here too.

King Crimson's Lizard to brighten up the afternoon.

That has remained my favourite KC album for many years.

Mike, I still lean toward ITCOTCK as my favourite, purely because it was the first time I had ever heard the band and I still remember what a strong impact that first exposure to their music was.

Yes, Steve. I know what mean about some albums have a certain resonance because of where we were or what we were doing when we first heard them. Floyd's Animals is one for me because, while it's not one of their best, I heard it first when I saw them perform it at Wembley. ITCOTCK is superb album. Full stop.

(2012)

Soën - Cognitive

Comments that Soën occasionally sound (vocally) similar to Tool (which is a big compliment in my book) are not too wide of the mark but this band really do have a style of their own, and what a good prog metal band they are not a duff album to date.

Franz Ferdinand: You Could Have It So Much Better - 16-bit CD Rip.

More Franz. And why not! For me, not quite as refreshing as their opener, but still a mighty fine second album.

The Cult - Live Cult - Marquee, London.

I was at that gig! It was absolutely rammed and when I looked round I found I was standing next to Peter Mensch...

Now Playing.........

Cassandra Wilson - Another Country

Cassandra Wilson - Another Country

Cassandra Wilson (vocals, acoustic guitar), Julien Labro (accordion), Nicola (electric bass), NOCCA Chamber Choir, Fabrizio Scott (acoustic guitar, electric guitar), Lekan Babalola (percussion), and Mino Cinelu (percussion).

Streaming on TIDAL.......  Cassandra's 19th album and still has that wonder voice and her music has put a hook in me and taking another album out for a spin.  After a few tracks it is safe to say that 'Another Country' is another fine album from Cassandra.....

Peter Frampton - Shows The Way

Keeps the circulation moving.

Predictably - Franz Ferdinand: Tonight. 16-bit CD Rip.

Yes, its a Franz Fest! The ‘difficult’ third album, but not for these boys, where themes of one decadent evening are explored in a so called ‘con(uh-oh)cept’ album. A new dance influence paves the way for their current album too. Superb stuff.

Angela Hewitt - Goldberg Variations (2015 recording)

Spotted Bert having a Goldberg run earlier, and decided to treat myself. The Goldbergs are amazing, Bach’s genius taking what at one level is “just” a technically complex set of variations, and infusing each with emotion, so that sad movements blend perfectly into happy ones and vice versa. Each movement is a joy on its own, and the whole set together is much greater than the sum of the parts. I never fail to leave it without a smile, because of the sheer beauty and the way that at the end it just feels “right”, it all shows to have been a whole and shows how wonderful the world can be. (If anyone sends this to Pseuds corner I’ll split your fee with you.) Hewitt has been my favourite Bach keyboard performer for many years, and this recording is amazing, I am no pianist or musicologist to explain, but she drags me into the heart of the music and transfixes me, it’s sheer joy.

The Kills - Blood Pressures.                                                                             The Kills - Ash & Ice.

Following the earlier Live Cult blast, carrying on re-living live gigs attended with these two.

They don't fully capture the slightly bonkers sound of The Kills "live", but hey ho.
