What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Fleetwood Mac - Then Play on (Vinyl)
Gerry Mulligan: Concert Band Sessions on Mosaic.
John Mellencamp. Human Wheels. On CD from 1993. I thoroughly enjoy all Mellencamp's albums. The title track here is especially powerful to me; the music, distortion on vocals, and lyrics combine for a stirring, haunting and humbling eulogy. Might be the US Heartland's upbeat equivalent to 'Elanor Rigby'.

My first listen to both this album and artist. Oh my! An updated Mary Black from her early work. I am very much liking this!

Good innit!
Just a bit, Nigel. Thank you very much.
Mike
Just ordered this and Nerina Pallot’s Stay Lucky. I reckoned I would have to wait a long time for these to appear in my Oxfam shop. Was this a good place to start?
Phil
Can't advise on Cara, Phil, as she's new to me. But for Nerina Pallot I think Stay Lucky is one of her best. It's new so you probably won't find SH ones yet. My other favourite of hers is Fires. I can highly recommend that. The song on it, Sophia, is very special (and emotional).
REM - Out of Time (25th Anniversary)
Streaming via Tidal, whilst waiting for my vinyl copy to arrive.
Big thanks to Mr Dane for the nod towards the big river.
Some Soothing Bach Lute Suites - Nicely dovetails the cold cold crisp snowy morning in the UK - Playing on Compact Disc
2011- It seems appropriate...
Lee Ritenour - L.A. By Bike (2012 Rhythm Session) Typical Lee's perfect sound, brilliant compositions and performance.
(2013)
The Black Angels - Indigo Meadow
Much more fun than shovelling snow! My only regret is that I didn't discover this band twelve years ago when they made their debut, they make really good psychedelic rock and have the likes of The Doors and The Velvet Underground in their DNA.
I've never been able to put my finger on what it is fused with, but I agree, whenever I hear The Black Angels, I hear The Doors too.
Public Image Ltd - Album
Might go and see them in June.
1979 - vinyl - UK pressing...
Cheers Tony - Just back from Lunch and we have got this on Compact Disc in the Office - So many great tracks - Particularly "My old man " - just brilliant lyrics and very poignant about his father......Keep warm today mate
Now Playing......
Cassandra Wilson - Loverly
Streaming on TIDAL......... Starting the day with something soft and lovely from Cassandra......sweet!
Not listened to these in ages - particularly like the tracks 'Black Marigolds' & 'Pavanne'
I read Carr's biography on Miles Davis a few years back - no mean trumpeter himself ! ?
- Ian Carr (t) (flugel)
- Don Rendell (s) (fl)
- Bass – Dave Green
- Drums – Trevor Tomkin*
- Piano – Michael Garrick
The Dandelion - Strange Case Of The Dandelion
Lovely sounding 60's psychedelic folk and rock made in 2013.
Now Playing.........
Lizz Wright - Grace
Streaming on TIDAL...... Receiving a little grace from Lizz Wright this Wednesday morning..... One fine album, wonderful powerful voice and strong musicians backing her on this album.
Genesis - and then then there were three - CD (1978 remastered 2007)
Bought from Oxfam for £2.99 - not their premium price. I think this album is a bit demanding on the system and was pretty much unlistenable when the demo 252 was newly installed. It’s very full of sound, but it is really quite good at a lower volume (8 o’clock). The lyrics are very good and there is a lot of beauty to the music. Maybe some of the classics got drummed into this ex Charthouse public school band!
Opinions on best Genesis albums from the various eras very welcome. Who is the lead singer of this trio?
Did anyone ever see the show man (Peter Gabriel) perform with them?
Phil
Filipe,
Phil Collins lead singer on And Then there where three
My favourite Era albums are Gabriel era - Nursery Cyrme - Selling England by the Pound
Collins Era - Wind and Wuthering - Seconds Out ( live album from 1977)
After Genesis 1984 - I lost interest as Collins had turned them into an Adult orientated pop band in my opinion.
Saw Gabriel with Genesis in 1982 at Milton Keynes bowl but to young to see them in their prime Gabriel years
(1969)
It's A Beautiful Day - Marrying Maiden
Nothing could ever come close to their eponymous debut album but it's still good to hear these 'far out' Bay Area psychedelic sounds with those distinctive bursts of La Flamme violin.
'Chill' being the operative word - 5 at the moment here in Sheffield...
