Now Playing.......

Julien Baker - Turn Out The Lights
Julien Baker (vocals, piano, guitar)
Streaming on TIDAL....... Another beautiful 2017 album release. Wonderful songwriter and musician with a fantastic voice, really enjoy this album. Worth your time to give a listen. Currently touring in the UK.....

Amazing front to back depth - ‘First we take Manhattan’ is like a sonic landscape. Totally immersive from the masterful LC.

I have just been listening to an unmixed 16-track muti-track recording of a gig-cum jam session Ese & The Vooduu People did last Sunday in Brixton, with a view to perhaps releasing some of it (provided the artiste is happy to do so). Probably as Vol 2 of the E&TVP Bootleg Series, perhaps giving it away for nowt, or doing it as a "pay what you like" thing on BandCamp.
The show is over three hours (yes!) long, and of course much of it is not useable. A lot of it is pure magic But there are some fantastic bits there. Here are the standouts:
Up In Smoke - Police & Thieves (with Auroa Dawn) (Junior Murvin/Lee Perry song) - Home is Where The Hatred Is (Gil Scott Heron song) - Where Did I Go Wrong? - Grey (with Be Atwell) - I Don't Mind - Fairytale - Oh Well (Fleetwood Mac song) (with James Enck) - You Can't Tell A Book By Looking At The Cover (Bo Diddley song)/I Want Candy (Strangeloves song) - Who-Hoo (with Duncan Id) - AlienI Wanna Be Adored (Stone Roses song) (with Nik Turner of Hawkwind, Be Atwell and Aurora Dawn) -Silver Spoon (with Aurora Dawn, Danna Solomon).
For fans of the group, I'll keep you informed!

Thanks Kevin, I'd certainly have some of that if you decide to put it on bandcamp again. ![]()

Lee "Scratch" Perry & The Upsetters - The Trojan Albums Collection (1971 - 1973)
CD set of four hard to find early Lee Perry albums, some of which were previously changing hands for silly money.
At less than six squid on The River, c'mon, why wouldn't you?
Well you know I would. You love leading me astray. So i just ordered. Thanks, Dave. ![]()

1971 - vinyl - UK first pressing...

More Monkey Business - Boss Sounds From The Original Skinhead Era - Various Artists.
2 x CD set of lesser known ska and reggae choons from the Trojan label, which contains some absolute gems.
This is the second one in the series, and the first one has more of the better known songs, so might make a better starting place
for anyone just getting into this music.
Again, a bargain from The River, at less than six squid ............... avert your eyes now, Kevin-W! ![]()

(1970)
Recent chat about Genesis lately has me reaching for this one, their first 'recognisably' Genesis style album. Trespass (Definitive Edition Collection) well remastered at The Farm & Abbey Rd. Studios in 1994.
Original UK vinyl pressing of The Focus Group and Broadcast's "Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age". Eerie and compelling pop/electronica influenced by the likes of The Residents and library music. And of course there's the late Trish Keenan's wonderful voice.

To hopefully clear the snow - Easing into the weekend with this fine TC album.

Julien Baker - Sprained Ankle
Streaming on TIDAL..... Enjoyed Julien's second album release so giving her first album a spin. Lovely voice and acoustic guitar opening the first track, very nice......

Ian Dury and the Blockheads - New Boots And Panties.
Why? No reason needed .............. loads of memories of when I used to regularly go to see them live ............ bootiful! ![]()
I wonder if Filipe will try out any of the albums being played by Stevee_S or Tony2011 today in his exploration of progressive rock. OK, he's been exploring Genesis back catalogue, but Tony has been playing some of the true masters of the genre.
I've just got back from a major expedition on foot to Sainsbury's (where the bread shelves and milk shelves were eerily empty). Recovering now with Disc 5 from the Vitamin Enhanced set. I've noticed that the SQ improves with the later recordings, but the music is consistently good throughout.

Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel IV
(1982)
Keeping a link going to Genesis with this rather fine solo album from their ex-voice and frontman.

Those must have been good times, Dave. Great album - i've always loved the cover.
Melanie di Biasio, Blackened Cities. London seems to be disappearing under a carpet of whiyte again, so this seems quite apposite. On vinyl.

Great album, and the track "Shock The Monkey" does it for me every time ................ I remember the accompanying video being the height of weirdness.![]()

They were indeed .......... I was working in London for a couple of years or so, and happened to pick the right couple of years, when the local music scene was just brilliant.
The Feelgoods and Graham Parker and the Rumour were other oft seen favourites .............. ah, memories. ![]()

You're not wrong, Dave. Just look at the number of great tracks on this album. ![]()
Filipe posted:Thanks for all the suggestions. Last night I gave up the 252 demo because after 8 days fairly continuous use it just is not developing enough and it was supposed to be 8 months old. The lower frequencies are emphasised and higher frequencies veiled. The detail and texture is missing. I put the 282 back and ran it all night. I do enjoy my 282. 552 demo next week!
Phil
Sounds as if you are gravitating towards the 282 camp in that long-running and often repeated debate on here about 282 v 252. I'm in it too, preferring the 282's boogie to the 252's subtlety. That said the one thing that seems to unify both camps if that the 552DR comfortably betters both. I'll look forward to updates on your demo, Phil.

You're digging out some classic's today, Tony. Might give some ELP an airing myself later.
