The Final Cut (2011 Remaster) - CD Rip
After the brilliant concert in Glasgow last night (Brit Floyd) there is only one band i will be listing to today, the greatest band ever IMHO, first up "The Final Cut".

This album sometimes gets a bad press - but personally I love it. There was a time when I knew all the lyrics by heart and it worked its way deep into my soul. It feels like an intensely personal album and the better for it. It was brutally passed over (save for a single window) at the V&A show last year.
Agreed, I rate the 2011 remaster the best version of the album, brilliant way to start the day. ????

Ben Harper and the Blind Boys of Alabama.
Just arrived today, now ripped and streaming via my "sounds broken" NDS .............. a mix of blues and gospel ............... which just goes
to show that they were always pretty much the same thing anyway.
Great shout, NIGELB ............. nice one.
2000 - on vinyl...
Resuming the Radiohead marathon after a short break.
Like listening to the B52s but under the influence of strong strychnine..
from the very exceptional Voodoo Rhythm Records Label.
Art Pepper - More for les: at the Village Vanguard.
- Art Pepper - Clarinet, Alto and Tenor sax
- George Cables - Piano
- George Mraz - Bass
- Elvin Jones - Drums
In July 1977 Art Pepper played three days in the Village Vanguard. This is a recording of one of the sets. I think their are about 7 CD’s available. Unfortunately I don’t have them all. These were good sessions of Art Pepper. In this session Art Pepper plays a solo version of ‘Over the rainbow’. ‘More for les’ refers to a song Art Pepper wrote for a good friend, which he also plays during this set.

Groundhogs - Split
Because this album absolutely blew me away at the time and was never off or far away from the turntable.
2007 - vinyl...
Pink Floyd
The Dark Side Of The Moon - 24/96

Lee Konitz & Harold Danko - Once upon a time
- Lee Konitz - Sax
- Harold Danko - Piano
This live duo date was recorded at the Celebrity Centre in Paris, focusing primarily on well-known standards. The exceptions are Konitz's free-flowing opener "Hi Beck," featuring his explosive alto sax lines over Danko's rich supporting lines; there's also Danko's "Candlelight Shadows," a moody ballad with a hint of hope. Each musician has a distinct sound that makes his approach to familiar songs such as "April in Paris" and "Struttin' With Some Barbecue" (which includes Danko's piano string strumming to accompany Konitz for one chorus) unique. This adventurous date is worth picking up.
Pink Floyd
Wish Your Were Here (2011 Remaster) - 24/96

Goat - Live Ballroom Ritual
Some of Goat's excellent live Swedish Psychedelic rock 'n stuff. I've got my fingers tightly crossed that their next studio album will be a marked improvement on their last offering. Meanwhile, this live album of theirs backing up their early albums is a blast.

My favourite Floyd album, and one of my all-time favourites. Seeing you playing the final cut earlier brought back memories, I was a student when that came out and I played it to the point where I knew it off by heart.
Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed, WAV CD rip
Another album from the mono box before heading out for the evening, what an album. Scarily intense songs, Jagger matching their intensity, and the band being quite terrifyingly dark and powerful. An immense album, no weak song, and Gimme Shelter, Let it Bleed and You Can’t Always Get are as good as rock gets.

Me too, Steve. I thought the guitar solos were stunning.

Great stuff, Kev. I should really get this on vinyl. She's got a great voice.

Tony McPhee at his finest, Mike.
Lyle Lovett - Joshua Judges Ruth
I have long admired LL's work but someone posted this the other day and I realised I have never given this a proper listen. Sampled on Tidal, ordered from the river, ripped and giving it a serious listen now and I am very impressed. Great songwriting, dark lyrics in places but cut through with that trademark wicked wit, this is classic Lyle Lovett and I.....err......loveit. Sorry!
An added bonus is the wonderful SQ. This might just be my favourite Lyle album. Bonkers good!
Blame Dave Marshall! Another one of his recommendations - four classic albums on two CDs, for six quid. Six bloody quid. Playing the first disc, midway through Africa's Blood and it's brilliant.

Nigel, this is an excellent album, as are most of his other albums. Very well recorded and great sounding.

‘The Final Cut’ (the track) - the even darker mirror image to ‘Comfortably Numb’ - anyone?

Gazpacho - Missa Atropos
Superb modern prog' rock from this Norwegian outfit, yet another Scandi' band who really know 'how to do' and get prog' rock while also stretching the boundaries. Gazpacho are one of my very favourite contemporary prog' rock bands.
