What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:

The first two were late last night listening. The Fred McDowell album is the first of this morning.

Beck. Colors. On red vinyl from 2017. Giving this some repeated listens since it arrived as a Christmas gift. Trendy pop was my impression then. Now appreciating Beck's artistry and it's quickly growing on me.

1973 - vinyl - UK pressing...

Playing this on the demo 552 DR that arrived an hour ago. Already the equal of the 282/SuperCap DR. As my dealer says this CD and others from Genesis really bloom on good HiFi. Now I need to wait another few days for it to really warm up. I’ll post on the other thread about 282 regrets.
Phil
Phil, if you can, have a listen to Steve Hackett's The Tokyo Tapes. It is really well recorded and there is a great version of King Crimson's I Talk To The Wind with the original member Ian Mc Donald on flute. Not fan of the vocals but it brings back wonderful memories of my teenage years. Enjoy it!
Tony, Thank you. Would you recommend getting the CD + DVD version of Steve Hackett’s Tokyo Tapes on the river to see them perform?
Listening to Tina Turner’s Private Dancer on vinyl at the moment. It gets the 552 treatment as well.
Phil
Phil,
Watch the concert on YouTube. If you like it then buy both or just the CD. Enjoy the 552. ![]()

There were some really excellent issues in this series. And a wide selection of blues artists too not just the usual suspects.
REM 's Third album on IRS Records from 1985 - Kohoutek - Good Advises and Maps And Legends are superb. Playing on Vinyl

The Hoax - Big City Blues
A band totally new to me until a few weeks ago (thanks again Ewen), this one finally dropped on the doormat this afternoon, just into my first listen and so far its another belter, these boys really knew how to do hard rockin' blues. Fantastic stuff!!
Keith Jarrett - Book of ways

In my opinion this album is something of a hidden gem in the vast catalogue of Keith Jarrett’s music. On this album Keith Jarrett plays the Clavichord. All songs are composed by Keith Jarrett. The music is a mixture of classical (baroque), jazz, arabic (think Anouar Brahem) and improvised music.
Most of the time the clavichord sounds like a clavichord. But sometimes Keith Jarrett is able to make the instrument sound like a lute, oud or even a drum computer. All very impressive. Keith Jarrett is very quiet during most songs, with a few exceptions. I just recently discovered this music and find it very enjoyable.

The Cult - Love (Omnibus edition)
4 CD set, comprising the original album re-mastered; remixes and extended versions of the three singles from the album; demos
for the album, never before released; and a live album.
A veritable Cult feast from one of the, (IMHO), great bands from the '80's. ![]()

I was playing this in the car this afternoon from my iPhone. OK so it's MP3, but when I first got this I had to have it on pre-recorded cassette because I couldn't get a vinyl copy to track properly on my BSR turntable. Maybe it was because of similar lo-fi, but in a few sections I was really taken back to the first time I heard it. I even heard parts that I don't recall hearing on recent plays of the CDs or remastered vinyl today. The emotional power of music! Great experience, even greater music.
It's always the music that comes first; the replay equipment is secondary.

(1996)
Sticking with the Hoax and their fine rocking blues.

Prompted by Stevee_S's playing of this the other evening. So I'm reminding myself why I've always liked Family and this album in particular.
