On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
D Diggler.Feel my Heat
Deep Digital from 1999
Very silly, and I would not see why anyone would be even remotely interested, so best ignore this..
Just Finished........
Tom Adams - Silence
Streamed on NAS........ Some nice background music while exercising......
Now Playing........
Jan Garbarek - Officium
Jan Garbarek (soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone) and The Hilliard Ensemble: David James (countertenor), Rogers Covey-Crump (tenor), John Potter (tenor), and Gordon Jones (baritone)
Streaming on NAS........ In the mood for to listen to something soothing..... Jan's saxophones and The Hilliard Ensemble vocals are pretty close to perfection.

Is there a 'best' recording of Carmen? Yup - this one.

What a coincidence - I caught the end of Carmen on Radio 3 this evening and though this sounded superb, must listen again on 'catch up':

Off the back of that however I've been perusing recordings of Carmen and had actually searched for a 'best Carmen' and turnd up Gramophone recommendations from different eras. Will take a look at your recommendation.
This is interesting:
Alternative/post punk/indie - in some tracks I think the singer is going to break out into Monster Mash!
Now Playing.......
Avishai Cohen - Cross My Palm With Silver
Avishai Cohen (trumpet), Yonathan Avishai (piano), Barak Mori (double bass), and Nasheet Waits (drums).
Streaming on TIDAL........ Keeping the good Saturday afternoon moving into evening good music vibe going with some of Avishai's Trumpet playing. It is mighty sweet!
Tidal Alela Diane - Cusp. A mention from Redkev motivated me to stream it.
Now Playing.....
Antonio Forcione - Ghetto Paradise
Antonio Forcione (steel string guitar, Spanish guitar, nylon string guitar, sudden fretless guitar, classical guitar, 14 string guitar), Trilok Gurtu (drums), tables, shakers, Kai Eckhardt de Camargo (fretless bass), Robert Manzin (alto saxophone), Sonal Varsani (voice), Ed Jones (soprano saxophone), David Mantovani (bass, synth horn), Ansuman Biswas (vibration, overtones), Bosco de Oiveria (percussion), Nic France (drums), and David Vaugh (synth).
Streaming on NAS......... a mellow Saturday evening continues! Some wonderful music here.....
Now Playing......
Bill Evans Trio - Sunday at the Village Vanguard
Bill Evans (piano), Scott LaFaro (bass), and Paul Motian (drums)
Streaming on NAS........... A little jazz from 56+ years ago, I was 10 at the time and missed the gig at the Village Vanguard but it is nice to catch a repeat performance this Saturday evening......
The Doobie Brothers. What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits. On vinyl from 1974. Tubey and warm throughout. Like comfort food for the ears. "Black Water" is the hit single, but I think every song here is equally good.
The Doobie Brothers. Stampede. On vinyl from 1975. Continuing on with what is for me the final album with the classic Doobie's sound. Their next album "Takin' It To The Streets" featuring Michael McDonald began a different direction for the band, less endearing to me.
Rawking Blues rawk
Rod Stewart - Every Picture Tells a Story
MFSL Vinyl
Released 1971
Superb acoustic blues album from 61.
As Ike and Tina once said Funkier than a Mosquito's Tweeter.
One of my fav's from last year. Certainly his best album and needs repeated listening to lodge in your brain.
Stone Temple Pilots. Tiny Music...Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop. On CD from 1996. An exceptional alternative album that 20+ years on still plays brilliantly today.
Andras Schiff - Schubert
Andras Schiff plays an historical piano (manufactured in 1820) for this recording. I don't have many Schubert recordings, so I cannot compare Andras Schiff interpretation with other pianist. But this interpretation of the music sound very nice to my ears.

Is this one of the two finest jazz trio albums of all time? The other, being from the same date, marginally takes pole position for me, possibly due to the marvellously relaxed mood created by the opening bars of 'My Foolish Heart'. The atmosphere of the event is captured so well too in the recording.
Its too early to play this now, but anytime after lunch should be fine.
Eric Steckel- Polyphonic Prayer. One of those albums that you need every once in awhile to practice your air guitar moves or blow the cobwebs out.
What's that darling I can't hear you for the music.
Volume 11 stuff.

Hi Stevee, Thank you again for your prog rock suggestions. I bought the vinyl of this one at the Canal Trust Shop. It’s an impressive work that I think will grow on me a lot. I also got Works Vol 1.
Although the SQ is amazing it has a noticeable warp that actually can’t be heard. Is it likely to reduce its value much? I paid for NM media and VG+ sleeve.
