What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Fab CD compilation of 1970s BritFunk. Just what the doctor ordered.
Ray Brown trio - The red hot Ray Brown trio.
With Gene Harris on piano. Great recording of a concert the trio gave in 1985 at the Blue Note in New York. I do not know of any other jazz trio / artist that play the Elvis song 'Love me tender' and turn it into a semi swinging affair.
Reliving my youth (and annoying the other half...)
Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill
Time to return to the 15-LP Atlantic Jazz box releasesd back in 1986. This third vinyl volume looks at the West Coast of the US, and features music recorded between 1947 and 1966...
The Sword-Used Future
On to another favourite. Although i enjoy their other albums, none quite match the feel of the first for me. It still sounds as fresh today as when i first heard it.
Massive Attack - Blue Lines
The Cramps - Psychedelic Jungle
I have absolutely no idea why I am playing this, but I do remember having a vinyl copy in the 80's.
Rather enjoying it TBH.
Continuing the Brizzle vibe. What a debut...
Portishead - Dummy
1989 - CD (rip)...
Lou Reed - New York
2011- CD - (rip)...
Flicking around the TV channels late one night a few weeks back i came across John Cale performing 'Venus in Furs'. This led to an explore around YouTube and a few purchases. One of which is this...
Lou Reed - Transformer
On vinyl...

I have found this is one of the most challenging albums for my system to 'make sense of'. Tonight it is sounding wonderful with nuances I hadn't previously fully appreciated. My mood/state of mind may also have something to do with how receptive I am to this intricate piece of work.
What wonderful, interesting and engrossing music!
As well as wonderful album, it's a great test record for systems. The challenge of presenting the detail and dynamics is a test of any system.
Sounds like a challenge I must take up before the 552 goes back! I have ordered glass, cups, steel balls and glass seats to do my own isolation on 4 shelves (thanks S3) : 300DR head, RP10, CDX2 and nDAC. Leaving the 552 itself to begin with, and will do Power Supplies later if it works.
One thing I have found as the demo reaches beyond 2 weeks is that the warmth came back. Playing Ms Gardot’s My One and Only Thrill there are deep lasting bass notes that create warmth. The other instrument similarly contribute.

All this ‘Hitch-hiker’s Guide...’ chat put me in the mood of this.

Final one before dinner. I was way too young to appreciate this when it was first released.
47 years later though...
David Bowie - Hunky Dory

We are on GMT today for meals, having been gardening in the wonderful sun of the South West. It looked as though it was over so I came in but now it# blue skies again.

You're lucky Phil - After a damp day yesterday, it's been overcast all day here on the Surrey / Hants border. Still, it's a good excuse to spend some quality time with the Hi-Fi after the usual dog walking duties. I'm sure the sun will be out tomorrow when i'm back at work

Ray Brown trio - Bam Bam Bam
Another great live recording of the Ray Brown trio with Gene Harris on piano.
Gene performs a great interpretation of Gershwin's 'Summertime'.
On vinyl...
1970 - CD (2004 -rip)...
Playing on Vinyl on Asylum Records from 1981
(1998)
Calexico are rather stark and dark here on their second album but I still find this and them compelling.
Kenny Barron & Charlie Haden - Night and the city.
Big Stars Alex Chiltons Third solo album Playing on Vinyl on Big Time Records from 1987
Now Playing........
Don Henley - Building The Perfect Beast
