Cyril Davies - Preachin' The Blues.
One of the original UK blues characters, who played in both his own band, The Cyril Davies All-Stars, and, earlier, with Alexis Korner in Blues Incorporated, with Long John Baldry on vocals.
I remember buying his 4 track EP whilst still at school, and this album attempts to collect together most of his known recordings.
Recommended for anyone who likes the rawness of the early Stones or Yardbirds.
Thanks Dave, this looks like another great shout from your good self
Most of the music is very much of it's time, in the middle of the UK Trad Jazz era, when blues was mainly played unamplified in folk clubs.
Cyril and Alexis were among the first homegrown bands to be playing heavily amped Chicago style club blues, which took off big time, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Certainly, the EP I mentioned made a huge impression on me, at the tender age of 14, and my acoustic was quickly ditched in favour of my first leccy guitar and amp, (thanks Dad).
Anna Von Hausswolff - Dead Magic

Wooden Shjips - Phonograph
Paired down minimalist psychedelic rock that always has that wonderful fuzz box feel to it, this one's hard and funky with undeniable Bay Area undertones. This is just a wee two track EP but a gem.
Meat Loaf
Bat Out Of Hell - 24/192
The second greatest album of all time.

Wooden Shjips - Dos
It's hard to jump off the 'Shijps ride when you're on it so I'm going with one of their earlier albums.

Thanks again Dave it's good to have your reference points. All the old music that we love for so many different reasons is "of it's time" so... onward and upward, thanks for sharing.
The Boomtown Rats, Tonic for the Troops, original vinyl.
Bouncy new wave music, they wrote great songs, lovely snippets of pop. This is my original copy bought as a young teenager in 1978, I don’t think it’s just nostalgia that gives me a massive grin of pleasure when I listen to this. I’ll still argue Rat Trap is one of the great teen attitude songs, and the other numbers are pretty good as well.

Wooden Shjips - Wooden Shjips
OK, just one more from the 'Shjps because I'm thoroughly enjoying the rush, this is another fine early album of theirs.

Eno - Ambient 1 Music for Airports
Sublime post work chillax with a cold San Mig. Doesn't get better than this :-)
David Bowie - TRAFO Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - 2012 remastered vinyl
Very near the Rats on the shelves, and after listening to Hunky Dory at the weekend , I felt the need to listen to Bowie’s other towering creation. A stunning stunning album, from the ominous notes leading to Ziggy announcing the end of the world in 5 years, to his wail in Rock and Roll suicide, it’s a parade of great rock songs, Bowie’s voice and Mick Ronson’s axe a perfect pair of leads, and the rest of the Spiders playing brilliantly. I nearly put it back on again, it’s hard to stop listening.

Phoebe Bridgers - Stranger in the Alps. I've been listening to this quite a bit recently. A new artist from LA who reminds me a little of Aimee Mann, although with song titles like Funeral and Killer, she is perhaps a bit darker with her lyrics than Aimee.

Ah!! The first Hendrix album I bought. Many happy memories of listening to Purple Haze and Stone Free right up close to the Dansette.
Very rarely played, this one. In fact, despite owning it for over 20 years at a guess, I don't think I played it more than three times at most. I thought there were some reed issue, but it's a lot better than I recall.
