What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Peter Gabriel - 3 (Melt), original UK vinyl
Another teenage purchase, I haven’t played this for a long time. Which is odd, because I think it’s an amazing album. It opens with Intruder, the guitar and Gabriel’s voice giving a chilling effect to the creepy lyrics, through other excellent songs, finishing with one of the few political songs I think works on a musical level, the stirring and chilling (again) Biko.
Went across the fields while reading a music magazine..., great blues rock album....

This hasn't reached my ears yet. May I deduce more melancholia, masochistic memorabilia and morose mayhem?
Yes, Loki. You can. I've played this a few times and can't really warm to it. Waters' anger is just too much and I find it distracts from being able to enjoy the music.

Then wanted to listen to the newest from Lazuli but not on Tidal....so ended at another Steven Wilson mix, the Rudy van Gelder of pog...
Have their first album, but not totally warmed up on it while it is quite good...
Some old love, an album I didn’t know, decent but outdated.....
Album of the year of eclipse..., like he other albums, i have a more difficult access to this music, while I can hear why other people rave about it...
I promised myself a play of this when Kevin-W posted about it recently and waxed lyrical about its virtues. To tell the truth, while I enjoyed some parts, I think Abbey Road and Sgt Pepper are both head & shoulders above it. All a matter of personal taste of course.
Revisiting again a absolutely recommended trio jazz album, nice modern....
ending the evening with it...

I have found this is one of the most challenging albums for my system to 'make sense of'. Tonight it is sounding wonderful with nuances I hadn't previously fully appreciated. My mood/state of mind may also have something to do with how receptive I am to this intricate piece of work.
What wonderful, interesting and engrossing music!
As well as wonderful album, it's a great test record for systems. The challenge of presenting the detail and dynamics is a test of any system.
Melody Gardot - Currency of Man - CD from the River Prime. The second hand ones are quite expensive.
Mike, It arrived this morning and I’m having mid morning break from the many jobs. The early impression is that there is deep bass drum (timbre) in some tracks and double bass in others (long decay of notes). There is lots of room acoustics in the sound noticeable in her voice on track 7 until I turn the volume down. Paraphrasing what you say “lots going on”.
How do you a Nigel like it presented? I think this demo 552 could change its presentation.
The album is quite a change from the first two that I have. Everything including her voice is much more sophisticated and it works very well. There are so many different instuments spread across various tracks. What amazing sax playing on track 8. I like it a lots - thanks both for the recommendation.
Phil
Glad you like it, Phil. I think this album will come to be viewed as something of a classic.

I think it's his best album, Eoink

Listening to Abbey road, have to agree, but they are all good
About half the album due out May

David Bowie - TRAFO Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - 2012 remastered vinyl
Very near the Rats on the shelves, and after listening to Hunky Dory at the weekend , I felt the need to listen to Bowie’s other towering creation. A stunning stunning album, from the ominous notes leading to Ziggy announcing the end of the world in 5 years, to his wail in Rock and Roll suicide, it’s a parade of great rock songs, Bowie’s voice and Mick Ronson’s axe a perfect pair of leads, and the rest of the Spiders playing brilliantly. I nearly put it back on again, it’s hard to stop listening.
Sod it, it’s back under the stylus, and the volume knob’s moved round a bit.

Agreed. It's not an album to play if you're feeling miserable, 'cos this ain't gonna cheer you up!
Esbjörn Svensson Trio Plays Monk
No reason except that I like it and it fits the mood. (I'm also damn pleased with that umlaut!)
As it says in the corner, 'Master Record'.
So much more enjoyable and relaxing on the ear after Coltrane at the VV fighting a split reed.
This evenings fare so far
Nat King Cole -After Midnight and then Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain

Gregg Allman - Southern Blood, original vinyl
My album of 2017, and one of my favourite albums ever. Gregg Allman’s final abum opens with the only original song it holds, the deeply moving Only True Friend, a farewell from a musician for whom “the road always my only true friend”. The covers are well chosen elegiac songs from Buckley, Dylan, the Dead and others, interspersed with some kicking blues numbers. Despite the liver cancer that took him shortly after finishing the recording, his voice is strong, he recorded this largely with his touring band and they are stunning on every song, sensitive, powerful, funky, whatever is needed. Too many high points to pick them out. It’s one of the great rock singers going out with a masterwork which is a fitting legacy.
Just Finished.......
Florent Nisse - AUX MAGES
Florent Nisse (bass), Chris Cheek (tenor saxophone), Jakob Bro (guitar), Maxime Sanchez (piano), and Gautier Garrigue (drums)
Streaming on TIDAL....... Played this album for the first time yesterday and enjoyed it quite a bit, so taking it out for another spin. The first track 'Eternal Thursday' grabbed my attention yesterday and has done the same thing again. Really enjoy the interplay and spacing between the musicians.........
Now Playing......
Prince - The Truth
Streaming on TIDAL........ Tuesday afternoon and time for some Prince..... sounding mighty fine!

A quite stunning album, which I've been pushing on here for a while ............. shame it's just so hard to get hold of.

One of the benefits of TIDAL! Love having access to music that would otherwise go un-noticed since it is out of print or do not want to spend the money without having a chance to listen to a album.
You were most likely the person who first mentioned this album awhile ago and I listened to it previously and kept it in my favorite's queue. Many Thanks!
