Mary Chapin Carpenter

Sometimes Just The Sky  - Qubuz Streaming

Don’t know much about “Mary Chapin Carpenter” but I am really enjoyin this album, reading the reviews on the river I get the impression this is a greatest hit album of sorts, will not be surprised if I buy it.

Edward

Start with IMHO her best album Stones in the Road.

Edward, I enjoy Mary quite a bit and been fortunate to see her in person a few times. Besides 'Stones in the Road,' I would check out 'Come on Come on' and 'Between Here and Gone' as well.  I recently listened to her 'Songs From The Movie' which is more a greatest hits with full orchestra and choir, something different but worth a listen. Its all there on the streaming services.......

Red Hot Chili Peppers. The Getaway. On vinyl from 2016. Decent album. Comfortable, mainstream RHCPs from a band that now seems more interested in stretching their wallets than stretching their musical boundaries.

Now Playing..........

James McMurtry - Childish Things

James McMurtry - Childish Things

via CD Player............   A little background music while doing a few late evening chores around the house......

Steely Dan. Countdown To Ecstasy. On early original vinyl from 1973. Aja is so often lauded as the Dan's epitomal album. Countdown has an exceptional groove throughout. Plays like the band is truly enjoying the music, not so much striving for perfection.

Yep I would go with those albums as well. Personaly I think her music was at it's best when John Jennings was part of the band and her musical director. He is sadly missed as he never courted fame and always stayed in the background.

Green Day. Nimrod. On HDCD from 1997. An 18-track album of fast, fun, and furious post punk/alternative, save for the lone acoustic song "Good Riddance".

The Hoax - Sounds Like This

Such a good British blues rock band that really know how to do it very well. Unfortunately they have flown under the radar for 25 years!! Great stuff.

Just sampled the album. Good bluesy funk. SRV and Spin Doctors come immediately to mind.

Pity their best album is not available

Yep, that's unfortunately very frustrating.

Steely Dan - Aja (pronounced Asia in the West) - via TV media player

Reminded to listen to this 1977 album by an earlier Dan post. I chose an alternative cover to illustrate how without looking at stuff carefully one can fail to understand what one is seeing. Same with music. Now seeing it through the eyes of the Naim demo 552 about to be returned. Still very funky jazz but beautiful sounding. Au revoir 552! Back to 252 and then my beloved 282 before decision time.

Yesterday, I took the PL off the 300DR that had been there for 2 weeks as an experiment. For my system it brought the magic back. The digital IC also makes a difference, me preferring the old Chord Clearway to DC1 on the CDX2. The TV just uses a AQ Forrest toslink.

Lars Volgt - Bach: Goldberg variations

A fine performance of the Goldberg variations. Lars Vogt lets you hear more what is going on in the left hand parts compared to most others.

I definitely haven't played this album enough.  I think these guys are great, but tend to keep playing the first two albums I discovered, those being the more recent Beat and Cirklar albums.  This is great though, possibly even the new favourite from the trio for me.

First plays of the day with Santana and the self-titled first album, followed by Robert Palmer - Heavy  Nova which for a recording of its vintage sounds smooth and uncluttered.
