What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Now onto a bit of UB40 and Present Arms -In Dub, an album I think has aged quite well and far better than their later formulated sound.

JS Bach - St Matthew Passion (1727) - John Eliot Gardiner et al - CD
Using the original vinyl cover. Probably a year since I last played this and the Mark Minkowski recording. Nearing three hundred years, and no doubt it will be celebrated 9 years from now.
A beautiful work that touches the soul. I wish I had not felt it too challenging for me to sing with Dorchester's West Walk Singers back in 1976. My wife and friends Pat (many years member of BBC Singers) and John did.

There aren't many things that would encourage me to listen to Graham Norton on BBC Radio 2, but he was just interviewing Judie Tzuke, Beverley Craven and Julia Fordham who will be performing together in November on a UK tour. I have tickets already for one of the shows, but may just have to buy tickets for the St George's show too.
Various tracks from She's The Boss and Primitive Cool by Mick Jagger, aided by some excellent musicians and the always top notch Jeff Beck. You had to buy these as there was the hiatus with the Stones during this time and the Steel Wheels album was a long way off.So, still have a soft spot for some of the music Jagger served up.
Alan
I bought this in a January sale and just got round to opening it for a play.
Wilco Being There Deluxe vinyl box set.
Grant Stewart - Downtown sounds.
- Grant Stewart - Sax
- Joe Magnarelli - Trumpet
- Brad Mehldau - Piano
- Peter Washington - Bass
- Kenny Washington - Drums
alt-J - This Is All Yours
Just discovered this group whilst reading a review. Rather enjoying it TBH.
I have the volume cranked up as the neighbours kids have just come out of hibernation and are now bouncing about on their bloody trampoline like Zebedee.
My dog won't stop barking at them as she hates it as well as me. I wish it would start p*****g down.
A lazy Canterbury afternoon ahead I think.

They sound excellent might look at going to the Bristol Show.
Woody Shaw - Solid
- Woody Shaw - Trumpet
- Kenny Garrett - Sax
- Kenny Barron - Piano
- Neil Swainson - Bass
- Victor Jones - Drums
Now Playing..........
Tomasz Stanko Septet Litania - Music of Krzysztof Komeda
Tomasz Stanko (trumpet), Bernt Rosengren (tenor saxophone), Joakim Milder (tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone), Bobo Stenson (piano), Palle Danielsson (double-bass), Jon Christensen (drums), and Terje Rypdal (guitar).
via CD player........ Starting the weekend with a little jazz from Tomasz and it is sounding mighty fine!
Wings - London Town and presently halfway through The Police - Zenyatta Mondatta, as always very well recorded and presented on A&M+ cds.
Alan
It's been a while since I played this. While ultimately I prefer the debut album 'The Lion and the Cobra', which has a slightly more up-beat feel to me, this was the discovery album that I bought on cassette tape when I was 15 years old, and became a much loved listen. Seems it still is.
Woody Shaw - Lotus flower
Another good one from Woody Shaw, a quintet with trombonist Steve Turre, pianist Mulgrew Miller, bassist Stafford James, and drummer Tony Reedus.
Fink - Perfect Darkness.
Playing at the moment, I'm thinking this might well be the finest of Mr. Greenall's many superb albums, ............. but then, I'll
probably change my opinion to favour whichever one is playing later ............. they're all quite exceptional, after all.
The Derek Trucks Band - Already Free , slide guitar at its best
Now Playing.........
Tomasz Stanko - Leosia
Tomasz Stanko (trumpet), Bobo Stenson (piano), Anders Jormin (double-bass), and Tony Oxley (drums)
via CD Player........ continuing on with Tomasz on this Saturday morning, a nice mellow chill......
CD. Baroque Inventions - Music of Bach, Händel and Scarlatti - Julian Gray, Ronald Pearl
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms, 20th anniversary SACD; although its an all digitally recorded album its still a pleasure
(2006)
David Gilmour - On an Island
I've not had this laid back Gilmour album out for a couple of years, as is to be expected there are swathes of lovely guitar solos backing up his voice which was in fine fettle.
Lee Konitz - Another shade of blue
- Lee Konitz - Sax
- Brad Mehldau - Piano
- Charlie Haden - Bass
Great recording by three musicians who know how to improvise. This was recorded live at Jazz Bakery in 1997.
