On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
I hope you have that nice and loud ????

I used to listen to Spyro Gyra a lot in my yoof, but I am not familiar with this one. Tidalising it as we speak and preparing for a trip down memory lane
Carbon Based Lifeforms - Hydroponic Garden
Beautiful ambient music for Saturday's evening.

Joni Mitchells Backing Band during her Court and Spark period.
Rockin’ with the Hot 8 indeed

CD. Johann Peter Pixis - Piano Trios - Leonore Piano Trio
Rickie Lee Jones. Pirates. On original vinyl from 1981. From the year I graduated high school, no way I'd have listened to this album then. It's a recent s/h vinyl discovery for me. Creative, artistic, and confident music with a great groove and funk. Still getting better with every listen.
Ministry - Jesus Built My Hotrod. Loud, headbanging industrial music which I quite like at times. Stirs things up a bit. Not to everyone's taste, however.
Nice Piece of Vivaldi on the excellant Naxos label - Playing on Compact Disc
The Chemical Brothers - We are the Night
Last one of my rave.
SIS - It's loud, well for a Sunday morning.
Peter Whelan & Ensemble Marsyas - Barsanti & Handel
Very nice baroque music.
I won't be listening to all nince CDs today, but it seems to give the St Matthew a blast...
(1962)
JS Bach - Matthäus Passion |Otto Klemperer with the Philharmonia Choir and Orchestra together with the Hampstead Boys Choir.
My first listen to this rendition, apparently it's an hour longer the John Elliot Gardiner version, for all that though it is quite majestic.
Slightly different jazz on the corner, when melody is largely surrendered to make way for texture. Still a superb album IMO. It's one of those that on first listen I found almost unbearable, but it rewards with repeated listening. There is so much going on here.

I saw Ex Cathedra’s St Matthew on Friday in Birmingham, in their programme they referred to the range of durations of recordings, and referenced the Klemperer as the long end of the scale.
A Winged Victory for the Sullen - III (from Atomos)
This came up in the Minimalists thread recently. Modern and hybrid, but clearly inspired by minimalism. Gentle and atmospheric - perfect for a Sunday morning.

Hi, Eoin. These days I think this does slightly divide opinion although reading through various Amazon reviews I think it's still generally well received. How did you enjoy Ex Cathedra?
