What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Was, Ron Sexsmith - Long Player Late Bloomer
Friday night feelgood.
Now, Lloyd Cole and The Commotions - Mainstream
Late eighties, with tunes. Reassuring but none of the verbal swagger of Rattlesnakes
Mark Knopfler - Wag the Dog ( HDCD ), the mini album soundtrack to the film of the same name

Melody Gardot - Live in Europe
Streaming on Tidal........ First time listening after having this in the TIDAL queue for awhile, some Friday mid-morning tunes and sounding mighty fine!
If it sounds as good as it looks it must be a cracking album
Mary Beard - Civilisation: How Do We Look & The Eye of Faith - As Seen on The BBC
I saw this while shopping at Tesco today. It might throw some light on this cover and many others. The fly leaf says
“The idea of civilisation has always been debated, even fought over. At the heart of those debates lies the big question of how people - from prehistory to the present day - have depicted themselves and others, both human and divine. Distinguished historian Mary Beard explores how art has shaped, and been shaped by the people who created it. How have we looked at these images? Why have they sometimes been so contentious?
In Part One she examines how the human figure was portrayed in some of the earliest art in the world.....In other words: How Do We Look?”
This cover certainly is certainly contentious. It certainly portrays beauty in the same way as a Roman marble, but it has life.
Equally beautiful is the sound of her music on My One and Only Thrill. If we consider the depiction of the three preamps I have been trying, then the 282 is the one that wins head over heals for me with that album. The 282 doesn’t work for Genesis yet. Maybe in time the 552 would have with the isolation shelf tweaks.
Any thoughts?
Phil

The Beatles - Yellow Submarine, don't always let this album go the full distance but enjoying the George Martin "side" tonight
Alan

Another amazing album in an amazing year... Rafiq Bhatia

Kiki Dee - Loving and Free , her 1973 debut album for Elton John's Rocket Records label, a very solid affair.

Goat Girl - must have heard Gun Club ...

And a last one from this evening...

Opinion on this one?
Now Playing.........

Mathias Eick - Ravensburg
Mathias Eick (trumpet, voice), Håkon Aase (violin), Andreas Ulvo (piano), Audun Erlien (electric bass), Torstein Lofthus (drums), and Helge Andreas Norbakken (drums, percussion).
via CD Player........ arrived home to find a package on the door step with a couple of CD's. First grab out of the envelope was Mathias's Ravensburg, so a quick unwrapping and into the CD player. I had recently streamed this on TIDAL which prompted me to make the purchase and I am quite happy. The first track "Family" and the second track "Children" were sweet! A great find on the door step on a Friday late-afternoon......
Now Playing...........

Jakob Bro - Returnings
Jakob Bro (guitar), Palle Mikkelborg (trumpet, flugelhorn), Thomas Morgan (double bass), and Jon Christensen (drums).
via CD Player....... The second CD in the package was Jakob Bro's "Returning" which I have streamed on TIDAL a couple of times. Jakob and friends are sounding mighty fine!
Now Playing........

Tord Gustavsen - The Ground
Tord Gustavsen (piano), Harald Johnsen (double-bass), and Jarle Vespestad (drums)
via CD Player......... Another musician that I love, each album I play I start to think this is my favorite until I play another of his albums. Tord along with Harald & Jarle is sounding mighty fine this evening and have cranked it up a bit to replay the first track, "Tears Transforming," is just fantastic. ......I am starting to think that everything is mighty fine this evening!
Ministry - From Beer To Eternity
As far as industrial music goes, this one is a gem. May not appeal to many here - it's an acquired taste.

Live. Throwing Copper. On CD from 1994. There were a lot of good grunge and alternative albums released in 1994, this among them.

Paul Simon. Stranger To Stranger. On vinyl from 2016. I like the music well enough and really hope that at some point I'll be able to post this album without bitching about the excessive compression. Not tonight I'm afraid.

George Harrison. Early Takes Volume 1. On CD from 2012. An excellent collection of demos from the "All Things Must Pass" sessions. High quality stuff, recommended for a Harrison aficionado. I'm awaiting news of a Volume 2 release.
Joe, heartily agree that Volume 2 is long overdue but I have stopped holding my breath
Alan
Alan, my guess is that Giles Martin is currently far too embroiled in a 50th Anniversary re-issue of The White Album to worry about Volume 2.
This rightfully is categorized as modern jazz

Brad Mehldau & Anne Sofie von Otter - Love songs

Just played the third symphony from this box set which, according to the credit card slip inside the box, I purchased in 1986 for the princely sum of £12.99. Not a bad performance, but there are others which I prefer.
Masaaki Suzuki - Bach: cantatas BWV 105, 179, 186 (the Leipzig cantatas)
Bach's wonderful cantatas.

After Beethoven, what next? Robert Plant, naturally. Playing this through NDS to check out firmware v4.6, which I had a suspicion might have sounded a bit bloated in the bass. I went straight in with the driving bass line on '29 Palms' - no problem there at all.
This could well be my favourite RP album, although Pictures at Eleven is also rather special too.
