What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Bobbie did everything on this, her final album (1971). She wrote all the songs, arranged them, produced them... she even painted the cover. It's an amazing record: she sings beautifully, the lyrics are wonderful examples of the art of storytelling and she incorporates virtually every American musical gentre - country, soul, blues, burlesque, vaudeville, pop and showtunes. Wonderful. UK first press vinyl.
Crawlin' to bed
1975 - vinyl - UK pressing...
Live in the studio recordings from Julia’s 4 albums.
Now Playing........
Pat Metheny Group - American Garage
Pat Metheny (6 & 12 string guitars), Lyle Mays (piano, oberheim, autoharp, organ), Mark Egan (bass), and Dan Gottlieb (drums).
via CD Player......... Out and about and walked by Golden Oldies and picked up a few CD's. Nothing like finding some fine music at pre-loved pricies! American Garage is sounding mighty fine......
Last one of the evening...
Kevin-W posted:A lot of Patti being played recently, which has prompted me to get this out and join in. On vinyl:
I remember reading a 10 year (or so) on retrospective review of this that called her a “wild-eyed poetaster”. In those pre-Internet days I had to look poetaster up in my OED, it means bad or minor poet. That cemented my love for the album.
Now Playing........
Grant Green - Feelin' The Spirit
Grant Green (guitar), Butch Warren (bass), Billy Higgins (Drums), Herbie Hancock (Piano), and Garvin Masseaux (Tambourine).
via CD Player........... Another purchase from Golden Oldies this afternoon and Grant has the toes tapping and putting a smile on my face, one super album!
Fairport Convention - Cropredy Capers Vol. 3 WAV CD rip
A 2004 box set of recordings from 25 years of the Cropredy Festival, from the Fairport sets. For the non-believers, Fairport Convention were the band that started English folk-rock, in 1979 they had a reunion gig in a village callled Cropredy, which repeated and grew every year and is now Europe’s biggest folk festival with 20,000 or so attendees. In 2004 they brought out this box set of performances from the festival across 4 themed CDs, focussing on the sets th band do with guests and past members. The festival has meant a lot to me over the years, these fantastic performances (with reasonable to good SQ) bring back many happy memories.
Some great music bring played by you Naimies tonight. I must have favourited about half of them.
Now Playing.........
Jan Garbarek - Folk Songs
Jan Garbarek (tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone), Egberto Gismonti (8-string guitar, super 8-string guitar, piano), Charlie Haden (double-bass)
via CD Player........ Another find from Golden Oldies this afternoon, recorded 39 years ago and sounding mighty fine! A fantastic trio.....
Fairport Convention - Cropredy Capers Bruised and Beaten Songs, WAV CD rip
Same box set, the most played songs in the first 25 years, some of Richard Thompson’s and Sandy Denny’s best as well as Ralph McTell and others, played by various Fairport and friends lineups, lovely songs and great playing.
Now Playing........
Grant Green - I Want To Hold Your Hand
Grant Green (guitar), Hank Mobley (tenor sax), Larry Young (organ), and Elvin Jones (drums).
Via CD Player........ Another fine album picked up from Golden Oldies this afternoon. Recorded 53 years ago and re-released on CD in '97. Enjoying this Quartet, sounding superb in 2018!

Pat Metheny Group - First Circle
Pat Metheny (synclavier guitar, sitar, slide guitars, guitar, guitar synthesizer), Lyle Mays (trumpet, piano, synthesizer, oberheim, agogo bells, organ), Steve Rodby (bass drum, bass guitar, acoustic bass), Pedro Aznar (glockenspiel, voice, bells, guitar, percussion, whistle), Paul Wertico (drums, field drum, cymbal).
via CD Player.......... A pre-loved album picked up from Golden Oldies, a 1984 release and loving the music with the various bells, voice, drums, cymbal, ..... wonderful interplay between the muscians, a very nice find!
Now Playing......
Grant Green - The Latin Bit
Grant Green (guitar) Ike Quebec (tenor saxophone on tracks 8-9), John Acea (piano on tracks 1-7), Sonny Clark (piano on tracks 8-9), Wendell Marshall (bass), Willie Bobo (drums), Carlos "Patato" Valdes (conga on tracks 1-6, 8-9), and Garvin Masseaux (chekere on tracks 1-6).
via CD Player......... The last one of the pre-loved CD's I picked up today at Golden Oldies. This album was recorded in April and September 1962 by Rudy Van Gelder at his studio. Nothing like a little 'Besame Mucho' on a Saturday evening, hearing the instrumental version of the most sung and recorded Mexican song in the world.
Early morning blues....
A bit of Dutch Blues to strat the day.
Scott Hamilton: Radio City. My favourite among his large discography (and now only £2.48 used).
I started this Roubaix morning with Yaz Ahmed ‘La Saboteuse’. A few listens in now and... well, it’s a very nicely produced, warm sound but just ordinary, no? Not bad, just a bit bland. Sorry!
A slightly more subtle form of fusion, starker and more minimalistic, which I am enjoying: Erlend Apneseth Trio ‘Det Andre Rommet’.
Good music to start the Sunday
