(2013)

Airbag - The Greatest Show On Earth

On to some contemporary prog rock in the mould of 'Floyd, Gazpacho, Porcupine Tree, Blackfield and the like, served up by this fine Norwegian band.

Kenny Drew trio - Pal Joey

This is a really good album by the Kenny Drew trio. Recorded in 1957. They play only standards, but the trio does so in a swing / bop-based style.

  • Kenny Drew - Piano
  • Philly Joe Jones - Drums
  • WIlbur Ware - Piano

One of my essential albums.  Lee Morgan’s solos on the title track and Locomotion are off this planet.

Quite an eventful listening evening already. Started with this, kind of edgy jazz...

What an energy comes across in this big band type of album...

Then started deviating a bit to dip my toe in some recommendation of Mike Portnoy the ex drummer of dream theater. This was in his top 10 - it is indeed a strangely attractive album...

Amazing metal vocalist, while not totally my style...

(1998)

Portishead - Roseland NYC Live

Why, because this is one very fine set of music of the trip hop psychedelic persuasion, on this occasion played and recorded live, sounding wonderful.

Bizarre and intriguing.

Quite cool.

Eclectic.

I like it.

The. I scanned to a bit of Muse, and realized I should get more of the guys, while it would require a couple of spins for me to totally get into it......, but after that I landed back at one of my favorite modern jazz trio, amazing driving music, which doesn’t sound like the average  jazz trio..

"Dark and mystical melodies lifted by a heavy and harsh background and lead by a beautiful and playful vocal" , said on  Bandcamp.

Beautiful album.
