Till Brönner and Dieter Ilg -  Nightfall

Till Brönner (trumpet, flugelhorn) and Dieter Ilg (bass)

Streaming on TIDAL........  I had placed this in the TIDAL queue recently and taking it out for a spin. The first track "A Thousand Kisses Deep" is fantastic and looking forward to the rest of the album.

This is a great album. I was a bit sceptical at first because Till is a bit too smooth, but this is a great artistic album....

Forgot to publish from earlier today. A great smooth jazz album, with a lot of high points........

Jan Willem de Vriend - The Netherlands Symphony Orchestra

Beethoven Symphonies 1 & 5

Great performance of the Beethoven symphonies. Sound quality is very good of this recording.

I agree with you Jeroen, I bought the Beethoven Complete Symphonies Series hybrid SACD 6 CD box set a few years ago, it really is most enjoyable from the NSO.

(1985)

Yello - Stella

Something from the idiosyncratic Swiss electronic music innovators.

The Fish era Marillion albums remain unsurpassed by the group in my view - unique, powerful and with gritty brilliant lyrics.  While I like some of the Hogarth era Marillion albums (and there are some great individual tracks), the raw essence of the older albums is absent.

Dennis Wilson - River Song (from ‘Pacific Ocean Blue’)

One of those songs that, if you’ve never heard it, you should listen to Right Now... And if you have, well you don’t need me to tell how very very good indeed it is, do you?

Harnoncourt/COE - Beethoven Symphonies 2&5, WAV CD rip

Seeing Jeroen and Steve talk about Beethoven symphonies above and not having those performances, I reached for my favourite set. I love Harnoncourt’s take on Beethoven, the tempi are fast, but he draws real insight and keeps me hooked on the music. The COE are superb here. The most startling opening of the 5th of any recording (or performance) I’ve heard.

This Madfish vinyl LP release is fantastic - thoroughly enjoying some Pendragon re-releases I never originally had on vinyl, only CD - a different league entirely, even the missus is singing along!

Oh, and the beautiful artwork, CD simply CANNOT compete!

Don't think I've seen that on cassette before, Tony

Mike, Yes, I used to have most of their tapes but they went missing when I sold my old MGB years ago. I still have Presence somewhere in the house. This is what's left.

Untitled

Well, what the legacy lacks in terms of quantity, it certainly makes up in quality, Tony

Ruth Waterman - Bach Sonatas for violin and keyboard, WAV CD rip

Lovely music, the Bach sonatas have a beautiful fluidity, with the complexity you’d expect from Bach. These are lovely performances, Waterman really makes the music flow, and the keyboard has a similar ease of movement.

I saw Pendragon a few times at the Marquee in the ‘80s, but never bought any albums, I might  well check out the Madfish, thanks.

They're an unusual band.

The later stuff is quite different from The Jewel (some amazing tracks), 9:15 and Kowtow.

My University pal introduced me to them in the 80's and I regret not going to see them with him back then, though I  loved an HTV show of one of their concerts.

I think the album above and The Masquerade Overture are probably their best older albums.  They went a lot heavier with Pure and Passion which are both excellent but very different - they had a fantastic drummer for these, Scott Higham who really gave his all, and it's unclear why he left before 'Men Who Climb Mountains' which just didn't do it for me.

You may or not like their material but a heck of a lot of it used to be on YouTube - they played many concerts from a theatre in Krakov and while Nick Barrett's vocals can leave a bit to be desired their live performnces really show his prowess on guitar.  Clive Nolan strikes me as Rick Wakeman in another life!

Only played the 1st disc but it's so far a flawless pressing unlike a few others I've bought in the last year or so.
